Goodbye Zagreb (capital of Croatia),hello Toronto :D

So yeah, you might have read my rambling about me hatin' on me (not a typo) homeland. Well, many of you guys pointed out to me that the war crimes in the past, the fucking dumb government etc. doesn't make the people, the women (THE WOMEN :3),the beer etc shit... So,thanks :D. But,i also want to thanks Raymayne for telling to focus on the good stuff in Croatia (i never realized that there's so much of it. The things you learn...),and i also want to thank xyzygy (that's the name, right?) for giving me the idea to move my sorry ass to Canada (HOCKEY!!!) :D

I've actually already been there when i was in law school, and i got a job offer at my uncle's law firm ^_^.  So yeah, thanks :D

Also, what the fuck is there to do in Toronto?

You'll miss it trust me. When my parents took me to America from another Ex-Yugoslav country now after 12 years they truly miss it. The people, the food, everything you'll miss it in the long run.

Toronto's a pretty cool place with tons to do and lots of great food. Just make sure you live in the city of Toronto and not one of the suburbs. You'll pay out the ass for rent but it's worth it.

Yup, Yuck Yuck's is a good place to check out some solid stand up now and again, the Second City is also there dishing out some improv laughs. As others have said, the food is great. Advantages of an super multicultural community are all types of kick ass food (But please go to
Smoke's Poutinerie, and enjoy an artery clogging serving of poutine) . Poke around and I'm sure you'll find some action to your liking. Toronto is my hometown, and even all the way other side of the world I feel the connection. I've lived in 5 different cites in my life, but only Toronto has ever been home. You never forget home, especially the good stuff.

Canada is awesome, though as a western Canadian, I definitely think BC and Alberta are way more fun places to live.

Welcome to the "Centre of the Universe"! As mentioned already, Toronto is a great place for comedy and food. Take the TTC, you're not a Torontonian until you've ridden on a Toronto streetcar! Also, since you seem to like hockey so much, you could drop by the Hockey Hall of Fame downtown. There are lots of historic buildings around the city as well if you're into architecture or history.

I am a fan of both hockey and comedy (in that order) and me and my lady partner have talked seriously about moving to Toronto, so I can see the appeal. I hope it works out for you!
Hopefully gonna visit again in the next year, we'll see how it goes.

Speaking as a Torontonian it is an absolutely beautiful city, and as @FrankCanada97:  said up there, the centre of the universe.  And even on its worst day, it beats the shit outta Ottawa.

Lots of great bars if you like to drink. I'd suggest The Madison, or if you like more of a grimier kinda feel The Brunny.

Awesome musems (not boring) like the Royal Ontario Museum an the Art Gallery of Ontario.

Shopping! I don't know where you are located but Eaton Centre is easy to get to by the TTC (aka subway)  and Queen Street West is absolutely amazing as well.

Sports? While Leaf games might be a little pricey even for a guy working in a Law Firm, the Marlies are actually pretty fun to watch. I've been to a couple games and they're dirt cheap and the people who show up, while they might not be that many, are pretty cool. Raptors tickets are pretty cheap this season if you are into basketball. And Baseball is right around the corner, $11 for great seats to see the Jays.

And theres much much more that I can't think off the top of my head.

If you have any other questions about Toronto feel free to ask them here! I'd be happy to help you out!

@AnotherDuder: Welcome to Canada and the cool people's club called Southern Ontario.

If you love hockey (and got the cash), check out a Leafs game when you can. They suck pretty hard and are rife with team politics (just watch TSN, and you'll hear something about it almost always, but it's still fun to go to a game, albeit expensive as fuck. Just don't go around saying the Leafs suck in Toronto however, you'll get a lot of angry responses from die-hards. Other fun sporting events to check out are Canadian Football League games when they are in season. Argo games are alright, and so are watching Toronto Rock games (lacrosse). Jays games are good fun if you like baseball, but if you don't like it you'll probably not enjoy yourself as much. But if you've never been, it's totally the place to experience it. Jays tickets are really cheap as well, which is really nice.

Other stuff to do? If you're over 19, go check out the bar scene. There's tons of places no matter what kind of bar you like whether it's a dance club, alternative rock club, irish pub, or a simple hole in the wall dirtball bar. I like irish pubs myself, so I like going to the Irish Embassy for a more typical pub experience, or if I'm feeling a bit more enthusiastic, I'll go to Grace O'Malleys. This stuff pretty much is easy to find on your own depending what sort of place you like to go to. What I can recommend for everyone however is going on a brewery tour. The Steamwhistle brewery tour is pretty decent, or check out the Mill St. Brewery.

Shopping? There's tons. Get right downtown and literally get lost shopping. Eaton Centre is plenty great and fine, but I personally prefer to shop walking around Queen St. W and surrounding areas. If you need something specific though, just ask some questions locally or look it up online.

Food? China town is pretty good for some cheap dim-sum for lunch, but you'll get someone else to recommend specific places for this, as I haven't been in a long time. If you want more conventional 'round-eye' Chinese food, just go to a Spring Rolls chain or something, they are everywhere. If you want Thai/Vietnamese food Lemongrass is a pretty really good chain. Do a quick Google for locations. If you want some cheap and retardedly unhealthy food, your typical street meat vendors have hot dogs or sausage on a bun. Someone above mentioned you should go to Smoke's Poutinerie, and I also highly recommend this place. It's close to most of the night life so it's good after-drink eats. Pizzaiolo's are everywhere if you want some pizza. Like sushi? I prefer Sushi Inn just around Yorkville. There's just about a place for every kind of food you want, but I"m sure you can find other local recommendations.

Around this winter time of year, Nathan Phillips Square has their ice rink open for public skating. If you don't have skates, they should still have booths set up for rentals.

Anyways, I could probably keep going, but http://www.torontolife.com/ is a decent enough site to check out for more insights and what not if you're interested, or feel free to ask me some more questions or other users here that seem to be other Torontonians (TOR-ON-TOE-NEE-INS, you're going to hear this term often probably) or people who frequent Toronto in surrounding cities.

Again, welcome to Toronto and Canada itself.

You know, I've been thinking about moving to Canada myself. In aboot 7 months, I'll have my masters degree in computer science and I always wanted to get into game development. Not much of that going on here in Croatia. I'm kinda worried that:

1. It's too far away, I'll never see my folks again.
2. I won't fit in (with my russian-english accent)
3. I won't find a job. I have no clue how to job hunt anywhere, let alone in Canada. I have no experience and no idea what the situation is job-wise over there.

If you could shed some light on what it's like for a Croat over there, that would be swell :D

P.S. GL in Canada, hope everything goes as planned!
