I'm only surprised it hasn't happened sooner. In addition to having to compete with Microsoft, I bet both Sony and third-party developers are anxious to get PS5 games in front of more people, and with hardware availability still so poor, everyone will just have to settle for streaming.

I had this whole thing thought out about how the current console can be called the "lost generation." Because of supply issues, the life span of the previous generation hardware is going to extend much longer than planned, and so developers are going to keep making cross-gen titles to maximize their audience. Because of that, games can't really take full advantage of the new and differentiating features that the current generation hardware brings, and instead settle for "more graphics".

I had managed to avoid pretty much all coverage of the game, so the Quick Look was my first real exposure to it. When Jeff said that the enemy were some breakaway Covenant faction, my reactions were 1) ugh, how lame, and 2) of course it is.

John Halo and the Covenant are the safe choices. For people who don't spend a lot of time thinking about Halo except when a new one is released, they're familiar and comforting, they don't want Nathan Drake and strange glowy aliens. So as long as 343 will keep pumping out Halo games, they will find new reasons for you to shoot Covenants. They have no other choice.

I'm not sure why there's this tacit assumption that unionization is going to help this. Unions represent workers in negotiation with management, which is great if you're trying to get better pay and benefits and it's probably worth doing on that level (I'm not anti-union), but it's also their job to protect workers and if it's workers that are engaging in sexual harassment the unions often come to their aid and make them harder to fire. Just look at all the bullshit that police unions defend from their members.

What scenario are you imagining? Employees going around grabbing the ass of every executive they see? Unions protect their members from retaliation by management, so people hopefully won't be as afraid to report harassment. They can also offer various forms of legal aid.

Activision Blizzard has hired a legal firm known for union-busting to investigate sexual harassment claims

Previously best known for its work with Amazon when it came to handling workers demanding better pay and working conditions, WilmerHale is generally considered to be an anti-union legal firm. The firm’s site explains how it advises on “union awareness and avoidance” with specific attorneys trained to develop “union avoidance strategies and union organisational campaigns” as well as dealing with managing of strikes.

We know Nintendo are perfectly happy to delay new hardware as long as the old one is still selling. Also, COVID-19 has probably significantly delayed whatever launch lineup they are planning for the followup device.

I wonder how long they'll keep the base Switch model around for. My own guess is that it won't remain in the lineup past Christmas.

I was a little surprised at the co-lab with Waypoint but as NL are treading fresh ground maybe they figured they'd hedge their bets by joining Austin and Co for the show.

Maybe the Waypoint people just wanted to help their friends out in their new endeavour by giving them some visibility?

It's the equivalent of a Che Guevara t-shirt bought at Hot Topic.

The very first thing I remember watching on Giant Bomb was a Brad/Vinny quick look, and I will greatly miss them all.

I can't say I'm excited or looking forward to the changes coming to the site, but Jeff Gerstmann is still a threat, and it may all turn out amazing.
