Those Nancy Drew games that Abbie kept playing? At least how they presented the world as these pre-rendered vistas you panned around reminded me very much of the early Myst games.
Cancelling was obviously the right decision, but that doesn't mean it's not a disappointing one. Everyone loves a good comeback story, but it was never likely that Bioware would be willing to allocate the resources needed. One of the final nails in the coffin was probably the realization that they'd have to do a generational upgrade just to be able to keep iterating on it as they said they intended.
If the PS4/Xbone still had a good two or three years left (though with the current shortages, who can tell?) I can well imagine Bioware keeping a small team allocated to the game, but the art and tech upgrades required would require a more significant investment. And who knows, maybe there's just no-one left inside the company who still believe in Anthem and would want to keep carrying the torch?
Sony doing away with the Wishlist doesn't feel like them being bad at the internet, it feels like them prioritizing sales of new games over customers patience to wait for sales on older games.
Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised to learn that was their solution for cleaning out the old systems. Rather than updating everyone's lists to match the new database, they just nuked everything.
In a way, the pandemic may have come at a serendipitous time for GB. Jeff has said several times that one of their big selling points is how lean they run, and now they have demonstrated that the site can be run without expensive office or studio spaces. No matter what the terms of the deal ends up being, they won't be able to operate out of their current premises forever. It kinda sucks, but I expect the current format will continue even after it's safe to stop isolation. I just hope someone will liberate Luchadeer before everything is thrown out.
