I'm not sure having a "heel" in a co-operative feature is good for the show. Also... why rename Lang? Just use a rookie, if it had to be done at all. I normally really like Dan, but this character he is playing doesn't fit this series.

I think the problem with people's advice is that they don't explain WHY dashing is bad (sometimes).

The way the game works is, if you spot an enemy during your turn, they will run off and hide. Then, after your turn ends they will get to move and shoot. This means they will get to fire at your guys before you have a chance to reposition or fire at them. That is why it's a TERRIBLE idea to dash into unknown territory during your turn because if you discover aliens that way, they will get to move and shoot before you have a chance to do anything about it. If you discover aliens during your turn, but you didn't dash you have the opportunity to fall back, pull suddenly flanked guys into cover and anyone who was set to overwatch will get to shoot if they can see them.

On the other hand, if you discover aliens during the alien turn, any of your guys with line of sight will get overwatch shots. After that the enemy will run and hide, but will NOT get a chance to shoot. You then get an entire turn to take them out. This is clearly the better scenario.

This means that dashing while there are no enemies on the screen is a bad idea. Dashing during combat, however, can be a great move if you use it to take up a good position or set up a future flank. Again though, don't dash into the fog of war. In fact, avoid the fog of war as much as possible during combat to limit the number of aliens you have to fight at once.

Also:

  • In the top left corner you will see an alien face icon for each alien you can see. If an icon is yellow, that alien is out of cover.
  • Collecting Meld does not consume an action, in the same way that opening a door doesn't
  • Grenades are key in the early game. They never miss and always deal 3 damage which is enough to kill almost any enemy you will face at this point.
  • Don't sell alloys or weapon parts
  • You have to build satellites, the uplinks are not enough.
  • It's normally better to take a shot rather than using overwatch, if there is a shot to be had. Overwatch is mainly for when you are moving up and uncovering the map.

@anund: Merely just stating what a common complaint is. As for the gears thing I find it superior but I do agree the bullet spongy enemies are a down point but that's not a mechanical issue, that's an enemy design issue. Kind of extreme to write off his entire input based on that disagreement but hey - opinions.

I'm not using it to write off his entire input, I am using it to discredit his position as an "expert".

@bloody_skirmish: @anund: I was addressing the OP's point that they didn't understand why many critique the shooting mechanics of the game. I'm just giving my experience (as have you both). I've beaten the first 3 games on crushing, but it's never felt like it was a fair fight compared to other 3rd-person games like Gears, MGSV, SOCOM etc which seem to have much more refined shooting mechanics that work with you and not against you. Uncharted by comparison, feels more sluggish - everything feels like there's a slight delay (reminds me of GTA's shooting). They are still fine games, but everything has flaws, and it's okay to accept them and still enjoy them.

Jeff has always been more mechanically-focused of the crew so I tend to take his input with extra attention.

That was my point though. You weren't giving "your experience", you were stating it as if it was undeniable fact. As for Jeff... The man likes the combat in Gears of War, a game with shooting so terrible and enemies so bullet spongy it's not even funny. That, to me, undermines his opinion on Uncharted's shooting quite a bit. It's obviously OK for him not to like it, but I can't accept that his opinion on the matter is more important than anyone else's.

If you want to argue Metal Gear V has better shooting than Uncharted, I am completely with you however. But that part of that game was amazing.

@bloody_skirmish: It's because in comparison to other 3rd person games - uncharted (and TLoU) have never had as good shooting mechanics as its peers - that's not to say they're not amazing games that do amazing things, but, especially on hardest difficulties, it feels like the mechanics are working against you which, combined with the low health etc, doesn't make for a fun time.

You say that as if it is a fact when it's clearly not. Personally I would take the Uncharted combat over something like Gears any day of the week.

@anund: I am a bit wiser now when it comes to World of tanks :D. Next time i'll check some sources before i post something like that. Also do's Wargamming still has those weird connections with Lukashenko ( the last European Dictator ) ?

Haha, I have no idea about that, but I imagine any company of Wargaming's size in a country the size of Belarus would have connections to the government in some way.

@anund: To give you some back story i played the game 5 years back and that's the thing i remember about the game ( premium ammo thing ) i totally believe you since you played way to many matches of this game :P. But still premium ammo c'mon you cant defend this crap it's like those dumb Fatality tokens in mortal kombat no it's even worse ! I am totally fine with people buying tanks, but ammo that's just a bit to far IMO.

Back then, yeah, it was a clear pay to win issue. I can't say it was a big one though, since hardly anyone ever paid real money for ammo in random matches. Since they changed it so you could buy premium ammo for in game credits, which they did in 2012, I really don't have a problem with it.

Now... if you want to discuss the power creep that's been occurring with some of the last few premium tanks they've released I'm willing to listen, because that is kind of bullshit.

Also I was wrong about the number of games played. It wasn't 12 000, it was 13 909... so there's that...

@anund: You literally shoot with gold ammo witch is paid up with cash. it's not horrid it's the truth. Stop defending shitty practices in video-games. Thanks !

You're either being knowingly disingenuous or you don't know what you're talking about. There are two types of ammo in World of Tanks. Normal ammo, and premium ammo. Premium ammo has some benefits, normally higher penetration, and yes, you CAN spend real money buying it, but you can also buy it using the normal in game currency.

I have played over 12 000 games of World of Tanks, I have fired many, many rounds of premium ammo and never spent a single real world cent doing so.

Stop spreading shitty, uninformed rumors about a good game. Thanks!
