Maybe my favorite game of all time.
The soundtrack alone was like a flashback. This and Vice City had the best soundtracks in a game ever. For two games that didn't have the greatest graphics in the world, what they achieved in terms of warping you into a time and place was remarkable. Soundtrack, voice acting, gameplay, story. It hit all of those marks with flying colors.
Love westerns. Always have. The greatness of this game was that feeling of being in the vast openness of the west.
Love this franchise so much. Sure there's other sims in the world but not that came at it from the same creative angels. The humor of the first one, the out there idea of micro-managing pirates in the sequel, and the refinement of the 3rd made for one of the most re playable franchise I own bar none.
Take Tropico, add the Paradise Island xpac, turn the music on, and enjoy. One of my favorite games of all time. Frustrating when your teamsters go on "walkabout" but once that was cleared up by Tropico 3 you truly realize that quirk was part of what made the game so unique and fresh. It may seem crazy to say that, but it made for the only city building sims I ever played that gave it's citizens real character.
