Hip Hop Gamer and Jeff Gerstmann

I don't even know where to begin with this. There's this guy going by the name HipHopGamer on the internet, who recently gained a lot of infamy for making videos about the positive impact women have in the video game industry. Sounds cool, right? Well, the videos themselves are crass, with videos transitioning into a a montage of scantily clad women dancing. Furthermore, in the end of each video he discusses what he imagines the said gamer girl would be like between the sheets (no, I'm not making this up).  You can watch the most recent of these Hot Girls in Gaming videos, which is about Rachul Moore (although she seemed cool with the video itself).

Ben Kuchera from Ars Technica recently got into an argument with Hip Hop Gamer, and I'm trying to read the conversation, but I'm not sure what started it.

Anyway, the reason I'm bringing this up now is because Hip Hop released a couple videos praising OG Jeff Gerstmann. There's something unintentionally hilarious from his adoration of Jeff.

I don't think this guy is playing a character at all. I respect what he's doing because he seems honest. Now I'm kinda interested to see what he has to say about females in gaming.

i mean that very loosely in the sense that if you ask anyone who is in the gaming field who are making games or writing about  games. The people in that field are generally white males there is nothing wrong with that. But i think it's cool when you see a women in the field that lets some girls out there  know it's ok for a women to be into gaming and wanting to work in the field. It also allows  us to see different games that are not just made for the believed "standard demographic". That's my meaning on the whole matter and if hiphopgamer can turn some people onto gaming that  otherwise would over look it than that is great in my book.

"

I'd think there is a much bigger problem with the stereotype of the gamer as "misogynic, homophobic young males", established through Xbox Live and such - and this guy certainly isn't helping in breaking that stereotype.

Go read some of the posts on http://fatuglyorslutty.com/ - Valierie Solanas' ideas seem perfectly reasonable after seeing what a scary amount of people are like. They don't even seem to be a vocal minority of the modern gaming community.

You may misunderstand my meaning and i have been to that site and read an article on it and it is a great read. It also shows how dumb people can be online. My meaning is that sometimes you need someone to break into a field and show others that you can do it too. Someone like tiger woods may have opened up golf to people who never would have given it a second look as a sport. hiphopgamer to a very small scale can do the same thing.

I don't like the persona he takes on, but I think he's an intelligent journalist, and I think he's got some good ideas here. I've never heard of him before this thread, though.

Personally I can't stand HHG. Not only is he a giant idiot (honestly just listen to him talk for more than 5 minutes) but he doesn't even realize that most people are laughing at him and not with him.

I will never understand his (albeit small) popularity...

AngryJoe and HipHopGamer should both be put in some kind of deadly game of Wipeout where it is unlikely either of them survive. (I included Joe as well since he's nearly as annoying)

I appreciate his enthusiasm, as misguided as it may be. But dude is definition of "guy with a blog", and I find his gangsta shtick to be kind of insufferable from the little I have seen, even though it's hilarious in the context of how cool he thinks Jeff is.

I believe it started with Ben Kuchera talking about some guy who "rewards" his freelancers with tickets to E3. People were saying that E3 is a place for work to be done, not treated like Disneyland. I guess these guys just disagreed with each other.

I'm not following here. I read through that conversation but what did Ben say that got Hip Hop Gamer so angry? I know someone told him to "shut the fuck up" and he called him a "pussy ass faggot" or whatever. But when did Ben come in? And what does Jeff have to do with this?
