BacklogBlogtober Possible Potential Prospects?????

I really like the idea of dedicating a month to clearing out one's library of interactive video computer entertainment, as has already been started by two of my fellow GB blogsmen, @dankempster and @sparky_buzzsaw. But before I can decide if such a thing is viable for me, I need to figure out if the games in my backlog that I want to play are even realistically finish-able, given my tendency towards longer RPGs and strategy games. I figure this list will be a decent thought exercise if nothing else.

Please note that the PC installments on this list are mostly predicated on my computer working, which might be more up in the air than you'd think. Also not included are the games I'm playing currently, since I wouldn't pursue any of these backlog things until I finish one of those.

  • It's october, and do you know what I'm not really into? Scary shit. I'm a giant baby when it comes to horror but A Machine for Pigs seems like more of a mood piece than The Dark Descent was, with far far less hiding from dumb monsters and far more hiding from the dumb monsters in your mind.

  • You might've missed me talking about this at one point, but I REALLY liked Warhammer Dawn of War II. I won't claim to be an expert on real-time strategy, but the smaller more tactical bent of that game's base campaign was alright by me. I imagine my save was lost in the transition from Games for Windows LIVE to Steamworks, so I can't very well pick up the Chaos Rising campaign and I also bet that one of the individual campaigns for Retribution is probably doable in a few days.

  • Hey, this was free or something on PSN. I mean, it hardly seems like top priority, but I might give this one a look while it's sitting on my PS4 Hard Drive. I'd rather play it than LIMBO, and yes I'm aware that I'm a bad person for not caring about LIMBO.

  • See what I mean? I could try to finish all that smaller stuff, OR I could bang my head against the impenetrable wall of filler content that is Dragon Age Inquisition. I feel an entirely misguided obligation as someone who has played every other single-player Bioware RPG to see this one to its conclusion, even if it ruins my affection for the company and the series in the process. But of course, it's also like 60 hours long, no joke, which would mean the size of this backlog list would remain mostly the same.

  • I have, uh, already mentioned that the dominant emotion I've felt playing Far Cry 4 has been boredom. But could I translate that boredom into a nasty blog where I rail against the Ubisoft template of open-world design? Probably! This one is also hella long if you so allow it, but I have the suspicion I won't have a ton of patience for doing more tower climbing and outpost raiding than what I've already done

  • After I finished Icewind Dale II a few years ago, Arcanum has in some sense become my de-facto "Old School CRPG that I'd love to finish at some point, some time, somewhere but not right now please" And given that it's a super long-ass game with a character creation screen that makes my mind go blank every time I see it, it might have to wait a little bit longer.

  • So I figure I got around halfway through Wasteland 2 before something else distracted me and I put it down for something else. The Director's Cut comes out this month and is probably a decent enough excuse to pick it back up again... though with the additions and changes I also imagine I'd have to start over again... not so sure how well that would fit in the theme of this series.

  • Another not-short RPG that I put some time into and got distracted at some point.

  • A charming retro-esque platformer thing that I'm to understand is pretty hip with all the kids.

  • I thought the campaign included with Shadowrun Returns was pretty mediocre, but I've heard a lot of good things about Dragonfall. It's also apparently not super long by RPG standards, so I guess it could be a candidate?

  • This is free on PSN this month, so I could very well give the original video game kickstarter success a look.

  • Or I could, y'know, just play Grim Fandango since I also own that.

  • Or, to get back to long RPGs and self-hate, I could play this little gem. I'm not lying when I say I'm genuinely interested in seeing this game's story play out... And that's about all I'm going to say.

  • I finished the first God of War last month. I liked it enough that I'd be down to play the second.

  • I've been in the second-to-last dungeon in Persona Q for like 6 months. I could probably power through it in a reasonable amount of hours.
