The Great Backlog Challenge!!!!

Like most PC gamers I have a ridiculously large backlog of games on Steam. This is mostly due to all of the sales they have on Steam and the complete lack of free time that I have. Who knew that starting a career and behaving like an adult would take up so much of my time? On top of that I have a few additional PC games, some Xbox 360 games and some DS games to finish. What is going through my mind when I buy these?

Anyway, I’ve decided to take action and conquer this beast, and to give myself some motivation, I’ve asked my girlfriend to move in with me. Basically this means that whatever games I don’t finish before she moves in I probably won’t be playing. Living with someone and spending time with her on a daily basis is going to take up a substantial portion of my time so I’ll likely only keep up with whatever new releases tickle my fancy. Now she’s finishing up her degree, so I have until shortly after she graduates to take care of business. May 1 2011. The date is set.

Now, without further ado, I present my video game backlog!!!!

Wings of Prey

Hmm...I may have missed some none Steam PC games....

Not sure what order I want to take them on in. I’ll be starting with Mass Effect 2 since I’m about halfway through. I’ll give updates as I go along, and there is a very good chance I will be distracted by a number of different games that I’ve already beaten. When it comes to multiplayer focused games, I’ll leave that up to my judgement. If there is a levelling system I may go by that, but I don’t necessarily think that hitting level 50 will make the experience much more complete than it was at level 49. Obviously the rules are pretty relaxed but in the end if I miss out on something then it’s my own fault. If you guys have any suggestion on the order in which I should be playing these, feel free to comment. Also I’ll be happy to talk about any games I’ve played if you’re interested in picking them up. I’ve played quite a few games, and by the end of this, a whole fuck load more.

Like me, you probably have more games that you can finish in a lifetime. Good luck with that.

All of these are worthwhile games, but if you use this list, definitely start with the games I've changed into links. I own every single one of them and aside from BraidSuper Meat Boy and Splinter Cell Conviction haven't finished any of them. I actually left a few games off of this revised list that that could potentially qualify as "good" games. The reason behind this was to potentially minimize the time spent on forced gaming, as it can be annoying if spent on frustrating games. I've heard good things about Darksiders and Magicka, but I haven't played them myself. I enjoyed the Serious Sam HD collection enough to mention here, too, but probably not on top of your list.

You can trust my recommended list, again starting with the ones that I've changed to links. I'm actually most of the way through Mass Effect 2 myself and am loving it. After you finish that, though I'd try and knock out any of the following: Braid, Crysis Warhead, Company of Heroes, Penumbra Overture, or if you're in the mood for more role-play, Dragon Age. Definitely give Grand Theft Auto 4 and Red Dead Redemption a try at any point through your back-log cleaning, but be prepared to spend a good amount of time adjusting to the games and play them only when you want to, as they are more open ended than many of the other games on the list.

Every time I check a topic such as this, I feel as though I should make a list of unfinished games myself, so I probably will at some point.

Holy shit, good luck finishing all of those before May 1st.  Civ 4 alone could potentially last you until then.

nice backlog. those are a lot of games that you have. i also have some back logs on PC, ps3, and xbox 360. i've been meaning to beat them for a while now. i have a few of those games that you mentioned. dogfight is pretty good game. you fly around and shoot other planes. star wars knights of the old republic is also good. i have 20 hours into that game. somebody gifted me that game. it wasn't what i was expecting but it is still a good game. i think that it feels like mass effect just with star wars characters.
