Boy, for saying that I was going to write about once aweek at the begining of the year I haven't followed up on that to well. Oh well another resolution down the drain.

Playing a varity of titles currently:

Tales of Graces f: It is a JRPG through and through. You know that this isn't a bad thing. In the current generation of consoles the RPG is kind of a rare beast. Played it for about 9 hrs so far. Since I have finished the last 2 "Tales.." games there is a pretty god chance that I will see credits before the end of the season. Plus it has made me interested in playing Vesperia again. Really need to track down a copy of that again.

Silent Hill 2 HD: Its SH2 alright. Down to the clunky controls and odd character motions. Have heard that there seem to be some technical issues, but I haven't run into any of them yet.

Mass Effect: Decided to start the story at the begining as a lady who plays by her own rules. I don't really have a problem with the ending of the trilogy. I do have a problem with the self-entitled aholes on the internet causing a huge freaking stink. Get over it. Don't but Bioware games anymore, complain in you blogs but for gods sake don't think that I give the slightest GD fuck about what you have to say. Apply yourself to an issue that really matters and not a videogame. Done with rant... for now.

DCU: My friends from work convinced me to get it. It is reminding me of why I gave up MMOs in the first place. I am not really sure who this game is designed for. I find myself bored to tears doing the missions in the game. At least FFXI had a wonderful world to explore and an interesting story to dig into. DCU, as of yet has had me beat up a bunch if random thugs and collect shit. Sigh maybe it gets better?

Guess thats it for now.

1/6/12

Welcome all to the end of the world. Here we are in the year 2012. I wonder what the new year has in store for me.

Today I went to see Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol. It was pretty damn good. By far one of the best action movies that I have seen in a good long time.

Playing alot of Skyrim. Boy that is a game. One wonders how they were able to put all of that content under the hood so to speak. Seems like everywhere that I go there is something to do. If there is something that I find fault with is that the deluge of things to do often gets overwhelming for me. All of a sudden I have so many quests to do that it buggles the mind. Only other complaint that I can throw at it is that sometimes the nature of the world is to much. Too much to do, too much bland colors, just too much. That being said it is still a hell of a game that I look forward to spending more time with. I just hope that a patch is released to fix the probelems that I keep hearing about on the PS3. I haven't run into too many bugs that have ruined the experience. Heres knocking on wood.

Reading "The Good and Bad and the Uncanny" currently by Simon R Green. Or I should say that I am rereading it. Picked up the newest in the series and decided to take a step back and refresh myself with the happenings of the last book. I think that the series may be starting its final decent soon. Hope that it wraps up nicely.

Heard a song by Stone Sour today. Need to investagate further cuz it was pretty good.

Why is episode 29 of the Chrono Trigger Endurance Run age blocked on my PS3? That sucks. It kinda nice to be able to watch it from the comfort of my room.

Guess thats all for now. I think that I am going to try to write at least once a week this year it is kind of nice to be able to look back at the year and see what it was.

FF!3 Part 2

Just hit about three hours. I liked how all of the characters came together when they found Serah. I also like how we are now being introduced to a Lost like flashback system that will help flesh out the story. But what I a\m not caring for is the seperation of the characters. No more Snow unless it is his chapter. I had heard that you don't get direct control of who is in your party until a large majority of the game has gone by. I am dreading having to play as whiney boy hope. Shudder...

Having a decent time so far and am interested to continue on. Also digging the quickness of the battle system. Only thing is that the ladies are not wairing anything that would be good for fighting. Oh Square...,

Playthrough of FF13 Part 1

So I recently picked up a copy of Final Fantasy XIII. When this game was first released I was there first day, just like I had been with all of the other parts of the series. I played for about a 2 hour stint. Lets just say that I was less than impressed. Other titles came out and eventually the game was put into a stack of trades. I didn't feel all that bad seeing the middling scores that the game was getting. Then the other day I see it on sale for 15 smackers. At that price, I thought, I would give it another (more fair) chance. So I thought that every few hours I would give my thoughts on what was going on in the game. How I was feeling about it and such. So here we go...

Play 1:

I open the shrink wrap and take the game out. I realize that I miss the days of nice big manuals. I place the game in my PS3 and start her up. No install, thats nice. Check out the options and decide that RPGS have alot of talkin' going on and put the subtitles on. I hit start and away we go.

First I have to say that this is a stunning game. Everything seems to have been touched with loving care. Though the graphics were never one of the major downsides to any of the reviews I have read. A train is on its way to somewhere when a lady (foxy) starts beating the crap out of some Star Wars looking mofos. A black man with an afro (which in a later cutscene we will come to learn a chocobo lives in) seems to be helping her. After a few introductery fights we move over to our next character...

Look its Seifer from FF8. No really this dude looks alot like him, but this guys name is Snow and he is the leader of a rebel group named NORA. Which as far as I can tell is made up of kids with goofy ass hair and one lady with no pants. They seem really mad at the Storm Troopers (Sanctum) soliders and enlist some of the people who were part of a thing called the "Purge". They talk alot about being the hero and things go from bad to worse. A gun ship starts shoting shit up and this mother (no really this lady tells us on two occasions that Mom are though. She procides to be killed, but not before telling Snow to look after him. Him who? Well thats comes alittle later.

Well this is happeing Lightning (the foxy lady from before) and Satz (the dude with the chocobo afro) steal a ship and head towards this big thing with a goofy name. Battles, cutscene and back to...

Snow, who is feeling bad about the lady dying. His friend with the "Wakka" like hair busts him out of his funk by telling him to go get the girl. Her name is Serah (who for the trailers to XIII-2 looks to be the main protaganist of that game). They take some pod racers back to the rest of NORA and the Purge victums. One of these is...

a boy named Hope. Yup this is the boy that the lady was talking about. He makes friends with a girl (is distrubingly well developed for what I guess her age to be) with red hair and an odd accent. It seems to be half between english and austrailian? Boy is Hope mad. See he saw the whole thing and blames Snow for his moms death. Let me stop here for a moment. This better not be all that this kid is about cause if it is we are going to have a looooongg adventure with this whinny emo brat. Blah, blah, blah comes from Hope. Just then Snow and Wakka 2 show up. Snow heads off to the Pulse fal' cie (the big goofy thing from earlier) and the kids follow.

So now we have all of the main? characters heading towards one place. It seems really bizzare to me to start a game in the middle. I have no idea what the hell is going on or who any of the characters are. There is a Mass Effect style codex system in place to hopefully answer some questions. Bu still it seems an odd design choice to start the game after the fact.

See you after a few more hour...

PS Satz so far is the best character (and at the moment I use that word loosely)

Rock Band 3 (or the everytime I thought I was out...)

So that was it. I had grown tired of the whole music game genre and hadn't played my copy of Rock Band 2 in months. I hear that Rock Band 3 is coming out and I thought, great another one. Just what we need. Then the reviews started to roll in and I heard the crew talking about it on the podcast. So I went and bought me a copy. And god dangit it has put its sharp claws back into me. Today I downloaded Rock Bands 1 & 2 on to my harddrive as well as a handfull of new tracks from the store (REMs End of the World is great). Sigh, guess I will go try my hand at Freebird. Peace

Purple ladybugs and the great pie machine

Man... it has been quite a week. Last Saterday at work the ceiling decided that it would be a good time to start leaking. Rain water was coming out of the light fixtures, the ceiling tiles were bowing in and it was just a massive cluster fuck all around. I was pretty soaked by the time all was said and done. It was sort of sureal to see rain in the store. But the very best thing about it was that the costumers never stopped coming in.

Lets see played through "Alan Wake"... wrote a review on that. Been going through "Red Dead Redemtion" as well. That definitly feels like a Rockstar game. Speaking of Rockstar games picked up the double pack of the DLC for my PS3. I always forget how engaging the narratives of those games are. Also picked up a copy of "Persona 4", "Metal Gear Solid 3" and "Killzone 2". So at the moment I am pretty darn set with games.

Listening to the newest Sick Puppies album along with Sun Kil Moon's "Tiny Cities" and Stabbing Westward's "Darkest Days". Wonder when anything new that is also good will come out. Tired of all these "Glee" soundtracks and Justen Beiber releases.
Watching some of the new "Doctor Who". Still not a hundred percent sold on Matt Smith as the Doctor but he is growing on me. Watching season 2 as well. Also rewatching the horribly addicting "True Blood" season 2 in prep for the new season coming up.
Rereading through Warren Ellis' "Transmetropoliton". Man Spider is so the man. Wonder what type of game someone could make with that licence. Nothing good most likely. Also reading this book called "Feed" that follows these bloggers on the Presidential race. The catch is that the zombie apocolypse happened... twenty years ago. Lije has just kind of made way. Pretty good so far.

So until next time be cool (unless your not and thats fine too)

Nier and thoughts on fishing

Man, I picked up "Nier" yesterday and I have to say that this one came out of left field. I was just looking for something to kill my weekend with and what I am currently playing is the first game in awhile that I haven't wanted to turn off and check something else out. The graphics are some what last gen, not completly, but they are not up to the standerds that one expects in todays games. But the combat is awesome and so far I am interested in the story. The only thing is that why do games think that I want to play a god damn fishing game. Gonna sign off and play some more...
