I'll admit it: I've been known to pre order a game or two from GameStop. My local GameStop actually isn't too bad, and I'm a former employee, so I like to help a few old friends out and throw a pre order their. I know I'm buying these games anyway, so why not? Anyway, at some point, I laid down some cash for the ever-so-ridiculous but rather entertaining looking Midway game This Is Vegas. Now, I know what you're thinking: "Artemis, why on Earth are you looking forward to such a terrible looking game?" Honestly, I'm not really sure. Some might probably just call it some sort of Grand Theft Auto rip-off, while others just might say that game looked way to silly.
If you haven't been paying attention to this game, here's a taste of exactly just how silly this game is:
Now, as silly as all that might seem... this looks like it could've been a lot of fun. It almost looks about as absurd as the Saint's Row games, and I love me some Saint's Row. You have a freaking Buzz meter that you fill by simply doing cool stuff! Bar fights, drinking, urinating, dancing and wet t shirts... it all just sounds like a harmless good time. Just look at the swagger in that guys walk when you start filling that buzz meter! It's all just so out there and ridiculous! I mean, how many other chances are you going to get to lead a synchronized dance routine?
You'll notice I used the word
could've... You see, I got the call from GameStop this morning that This Is Vegas had been canceled. It's like getting the call that an aunt or yours that you sort of knew and liked but never really saw that often had passed away. I was pretty sad to hear the news that it won't be hitting shelves, though not really surprised (We all know the deal about Midway, right?) I was hoping that this would be the game to rise above all that, because it seemed like they were putting a substantial amount of push behind it, but once all the troubles really started rolling in, word about this game got really quiet. It was a bad sign. While there is no official word, I feel like GameStop's word is solid enough. I've gotten bad news like this from them many times (I'm still broken up about the Highlander game!) I don't know, maybe one of these days we'll see this game again. I recently heard that the 100 Bullets game is back in production, so maybe we'll see this as well?
...Yeah. I doubt it, too.
Was anyone else looking forward to this, other than me?
