Games from this generation (xbox 360, PS3, Wii era) that I have actually played more than two hours

Since the new generation have officially started, I decided to make a list of games I have actually sat down and played that was released on this set of consoles (that is listed in the title). I have not played all of this games on a console though, some I have played on PC. There is no specific meaning to the ordering of the list, no game is meant to be taken as superior than a other on the list. (this list is work in progress)

List items

  • Played on PC, fantastic game for being released so early in the generation!

  • Played on Xbox 360, actually played this game before the first.

  • An Xbox 360 exclusive. Had fun multiplayer, single player was so and so. Honestly thought 1 and even 2 was better in single player (yes even with that shitty ending in 2).

  • An Xbox 360 exclusive. Interesting way to start a new trilogy, very interested to see how the story turns out over the next games. As for the game itself: really pretty visuals, some classic Halo stuff and the new stuff are a bit hit and miss, thought the ending was very silly. Have not tried multiplayer.

  • Played this on Xbox 360. Game was fantastic and set standards for third person shooters this generation. Not sure how it holds up.

  • An Xbox 360 exclusive. I thought it was a pretty badass follow up to the first game and that horde mode was really nice.

  • An Xbox 360 exclusive. Hmm, this one is a bit odd. The game was pretty good, don't get me wrong. But I didn't feel there was much new stuff introduced compared to Gears 2 and the freshness of the series was beginning to fade. Still, the story took some nice turns and twists and the graphics was awesome for a xbox 360 exclusive.

  • Played on both Xbox 360 and PC. Played this game a lot, pretty good stuff. Reminds me of Morrowind in some ways. But kinda more generic fantasy environments compared to that game. With that said, I think I preferred this one since I sunk way more time into it than Morrowind. A really awesome early game this generation.

  • An Playstation 3 exclusive. One of the few Playstation 3 games that I have actually played start to finish. It was a really weird game in an already strange franchise. The prequels, MGS 1-3, where amazing games for their time, but had some real nonsensical stuff in their storylines (MGS2 being the peak of that). This one had streamlined the gameplay quite a bit and had some interesting ideas with the optocamo suit and the whole choice of siding with rebels or mercenaries in a couple of the fights. And a really cool throwback scene to MGS 1. With that said the game gets really stupid towards the end (in an amazing way).

  • Played this on PC. Now I have played Half Life 2 and Episode 1 expansion before the release of this one so I am not gonna say much about those other than that Half Life 2 was pretty good and episode 1 was okay, but not great. Episode 2 and Portal were the reasons I got Orange box and they were both solid titles. But ultimately the big surprise for me, and the game I sunk the most hours in, was Team Fortress 2. It was a surprise since I am not much of a multiplayer kind of guy. Team Fortress 2 is simply put outstanding.

  • Played on PC. Was a pretty good coop shooter. With that said its the kind of game that is most fun played with actual players, the bot AI is quite dumb.

  • Played on PC. On PC this game has kinda made the original game obsolete since it shockingly includes all the campaigns of the first game now. The bot AI is still quite dumb and its even a worse problem in this game since you have to rush more in the new campaigns. Playing with real people is the way to go.

  • Played on PC. Outstanding game, nuff said.

  • Played on Xbox 360. This game was pretty cool, though a bit too much combat heavy. You see the combat is fine, its just not the best part of the game. The best part is the atmosphere and the story I think. I ultimately liked Remedy's earlier games better (Max Payne 1 and 2).

  • Played on PC. Game is best played in coop, even then the game has so many annoying QTE sections towards the end and that really annoying car turret sequence and that really annoying... Well you get the point, the game is actually at its most fun when you are exploring around like the part where you could drive around a boat. Its unfortunate that it has so many annoying parts though, drags down what could have been an amazing game.

  • Played on Xbox 360. I get a sense that this game is kinda overlooked or forgotten compared to the original and the newer Infinite. In some ways I can see why, the game kinda is just more of the same from the first. But this time Rapture is not as exciting and fresh an experience. With that said the improved combat is way more fun than the first and that one section that you play as a lit... not gonna spoil it, but I thought it was cool. They could have done more with you being a Big Daddy though.

  • Played on PC. This game is incredibly atmospheric. The melee combat was brutal, while simple. Really good game, shocking that it was actually a launch title for 360.

  • Played on Xbox 360. Game has a really cool first half (that crazy bear being a highlight), but the game takes a turn for the weird and becomes closer to a normal FPS with guns. With that said this is nothing quite like the turn in Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy. Its a halfgood sequel to the original and I am not sure if a third one will ever be made. :(

  • Played on PC (I realize this is a PC exclusive, but it is released in the time period of these other titles and there was planned a 360 version at some point). A very good game that starts quite slow, but gets quite good. One nitpick is that the game takes an awful long time in Vizima, making you run around the same locations for quite some time.

  • Played on Xbox 360. I played this on 360 since I don't have a good enough PC. With that said, I feel this game looks quite good on 360 (some low res textures here and there, but otherwise fine). The game itself is awesome, simply put. Its streamlined a bit from the first game and while I miss a couple of things from the first game it never feels dumbed down. Game is fairly challenging.

  • Played on Xbox 360. There are very few good western themed games on the market and this is one of them. Arguably the best western related game to have been released.

  • Played on PC. This game was decent enough when it came out. It builds up to a really awesome twist and after that the game just kinda continues for a few hours and then ends. This game kinda copies the System Shock 2 structure, but cuts out pretty much all the survival horror stuff from that game. That combined with less emphasis on RPG elements means that the game is more of a straight shooter. Its a bummer then that the combat is mediocre and doesn't feel that awesome to sustain the game all the way through. The game also has these moral choices with the little sisters. Its a nice idea, but falls flat in practice. Still, its an important title released for the 360/PS3 generation.

  • Played on PC. Game is quite good, but doesn't have as interesting a world to explore like New Vegas.

  • Played on PC. A rough diamond, very good game despite the bugs. Felt that this game had a much cooler world than FO3, but not as good main story.

  • Played on PC. Fantastic game, nuff said.

  • Played on PC. I was a fan of the original games on PC and I find that this game has a very different tone in the story compared to them. While this is understandable considering its Rockstar that is the developer this time, but I am not quite sure if I like it. One thing I do like is the gameplay or rather the moments were you are shootdodging in this game like in the originals. Yet even here there are some caveats, cover based mechanics is introduced in this game and I am not sure it fits the flow of a Max Payne game.

  • Played on PC. Very pretty visuals, interesting platformer elements in a first person perspective game, bad looking animated cutscenes. Actually enjoyed some of the combat sections, but also feel that there should have been less of them.

  • Played on Xbox 360. Extremely atmospheric game and also very gory. Very cool game. Way better game than Resident Evil 5.

  • Played on Xbox 360. This game has that "just one more turn" feel similar to the Civilization games. Geoscape is pretty cool and the tactical combat sections are much faster paced than the original Xcom game from the 90s. With that said I actually kinda liked geoscape more in the original. And the music in the original was better aswell.

  • Played on Xbox 360. What a fantastic driving game this is. The open world nature of the game actually makes the racing parts seem a little confusing at first. But just driving around the world, smashing fences and seeing the sights is a surprising amount of fun in itself. And oh yeah, crashing cars looks amazing in this game even so many years after release.
