No, but I don't think they did them last year either? Personally I like the videos at the end of night but personally I wish there was more talk on the games and going around to see them at the show from the GB guys.

I feel like Podcast wise I am always not getting enough talk on games from the guys lately. If they couldn't do the videos it would be nice to get a podcast or two.

I listened to the Waypoint Podcasts this year which are very good (really like Rob Zacny with them on there) to get that kind of stuff. I did feel it was lacking on GB this year.

@humanity:I feel pretty similar to you. It looks like a sort of interesting historically set RPG but you don't look to be doing much of anything stealthy. The combat is new too which is cool but doesn't actually look good itself. The only cool things I heard about it was some fun dynamic things arising with the wildlife.

It does seem Witcher 3 inspired in aways as reported but the funny bit about that to me is that Witcher 3, with all these elements branching off of it, was centered around you being a monster hunter and that being a job with mechanics and a number of ways that role is reinforced throughout the game. To the level where people spit at you in the street.

In this, being an assassin seems like an easy way to match that method but they seem to not be doing it. There could be a focus on information gathering, recon, and assassination jobs that were at the core of the game. That's not being shown, at least so far.

Finally got the clarification on this. I think it makes sense and I am interested to see how the two sides stand out. I love destruction but was always wondering how that jives with Crackdown's platforming stuff, which destruction would really fuck with.

People who saw more of the game seem to have good things to say. Heard them say so on the Waypoint podcast.

  • The Chosen will banter with the Commander (player) during missions, on the strategic view and during downtime on the Avenger. They will call back to past encounters or comment on having defeated one of their siblings.

I'm strangely excited about this feature in particular. Since the nemesis system, I think this is a super cool way to get some really powerful relations to the characters in the game. It also makes me wish that they went on ahead and created a G.I. Joe game in similar fashion, or perhaps even a new Jagged Alliance, where the interactions between the mercs can be important as well.

Man a good new JA is far overdue, as you could do all kinds of cool RPG stuff with the characters more in lieu of even a typical party based RPG. But those kind of ideas could improve all kinds of games. I think anything that improves your relation to antagonists (which often in games can feel throw away) is good.

Larger and more diverse interactions with NPCs is a step up the feels meaningful in a game now vs just making something higher res.

For XCOM specifically, I think it's cool because it makes the story in a way more systematic vs linear, which was a part of XCOM 2 that did not feel good. I don't like having weird scripted missions overall. If they can do some story stuff and build up enemies to face you while keeping it systemic that would be very cool.

It also makes me think of the jabbering at each other in dogfighting games like Wing Commander and Star Fox lol.

E3 has become so about finding things out before the show actually opens, via leaks or the press conferences, that sometimes there are games that get a bit overlooked. Apparently this game has been in development forever (hence the old wiki page here) and is finally being shown again, but actually looks very interesting. I found a cool article on PC Gamer that I think is worth checking out.

The quick pitch is that it is a FPS with a multiplayer match set up where you take in persistence perma death characters and hunt monsters while competing and possibly fighting with other teams of monster hunters (players) along the way in a sandbox environment. So it is a combination of PvE and PvP. It is reminiscent of STALKER when you would stumble across other teams, and in how the monsters work. You seem to have a boss you are after, but there are all sorts of other random monsters along the way. Once you take out the boss, you have to hold out at the location for a minute while every other team is alerted to your position (hence the "Showdown") and then you have to escape.

The game lets you level up and customize your characters and there is some degree of Rogue-lite element where you upgrade your characters some even if they eventually die and are lost in a match.

The game also looks really, really nice graphically. It has such a moody feel to the night in it and some elements are just really nicely done (for example the crazy fast movement on the spider enemy is creepy as shit). The fog and lighting are excellent. And while it looks great in video, in the article they say it was one of the most striking games they have seen in years in person. They also say the game is really scary when you play it as well so seems to be hitting that horror element in addition.

You can check out them showing it on Twitch too. I find the PvE/PvP set up really interesting and it sounds like it could get incredibly tense with the permadeath characters. It's another cool set up for multiplayer like PUBG is in its own way and that is also exciting. I always loved that element of STALKER and a distilled version is welcome. The only thing I don't love is the use and visual of the "detective mode" (which I find hilarious he uses that term) in the game.

There are some other that could get me but Total Warhammer is tops on my list. Been waiting to get into it once you can get the whole package cheaper as a collection or at least more of it on a solid discount.

I couldn't really choose one. Anthem, Mario XCOM, DB Fighter Z, State of Decay 2, Monster Hunter World.

@ev77: I don't necessarily think it's terrible for air travel given some special things about it but overall I agree with everything else.

You can always have some security personnel on site. Otherwise, it is part of the cost of having a free society to me. Like you say, not a fun answer to hear.

I don't think it's black and white like you are saying. Personally I am a bit dissapointed they aren't more all in on Switch, but at the same time the 3DS market is there. I think yes they will still make games for it but it will not be the main focus and more effort will go into Switch. The amount of effort going in has been pretty clear and I think the 3DS will keep being less of a focus, especially because they have gone into phone games.

It's funny because for me one of my takeaways from E3 was that them making a proper Pokemon RPG for Switch was a great sign there were focusing on Switch like that. A console Pokemon is a game that I have wanted to see for a long time.
