I just finished The Godfather for class, and I'm thinking of jumping back into either American Gods or Dancing With Eternity, both which I was reading prior to the start of the semester (I can't multitask easily with books).

I'm thinking of reading Game of Thrones in the future (should I do it before or after I start watching the show?), as well as The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (again, before or after the movie?). I have mixed feelings about House of Leaves. It seems interesting, but I had a friend when it came out who really lessened the appeal of it for me because he started color-coding important words when he typed, just like the book did, and seemed to like it because a lot of people didn't know of or understand it.

In my experience, it's always better to read the book before watching the movie/show because even if you read the book and know how the movie ends, at least the entertainment factor keeps you engaged. A big regret of mine is watching the LoTR Trilogy before reading the books. I refuse to see The Hobbit before reading the book now. I've heard the show Game of Thrones is really good though, if you just don't have time to tackle the print.

I just finished up the Wind Through the Keyhole. Now I'm trying to read House of Leaves again. Such an interesting book, written in such a wildly obtuse way.

I also listen to the Harry Potter audiobooks about once a year, I'm about finished up with those again. The English version of course, Stephen Fry does the voices so goddamn well. These really are fantastic books.

I've had House of Leaves on my to-read for a long time. A friend of mine had to stop (at least indefinitely), which didn't help me overcome my pessimism. Not sure if I could read a book in front of the bathroom mirror! What made you stop? And would it be worth it if you could overcome the style?

Is it that time of the month where someone posts another thread about books? I guess I better talk about Cormac McCarthy some more. I'm reading All the Pretty Horses and thinking about restarting House of Leaves by Mark Z Danielewski.

Never posted in the forms until today, so I'm not privy to tradition. But I'm glad I could make the obligatory monthly book topic.

I read about a Dozen or so books a year now, I never really read as a kid and only started doing it now on my commute thanks to a kindle and a back log of some books I bought that were recommended to me.

A Song of Fire and Ice: Book 1, about 700 pages into it should finish it this weekend or early. Planning to read Harry Potter Book 1 after that due to a Trivia tournament that is coming up with a free trip to Orlando to visit the theme park that shall not be named :D

After that will probably be book 2 of Song of Fire and Ice with plans to finish book 3 before the 3rd season of the show starts.

I suggest joining GoodReads. When I joined I read at most 5 per year. Last year I read 30, this year will be 40. Feeds the addiction with their Netflix style recommendation system.

A Storm of Swords

I plan to dive into this series eventually. Have you read Patrick Rothfuss' first two books in his trilogy: The Name of the Wind and The Wise Man's Fear? Really good imo.

I'm listening to the audiobook of Dune during my commute to work. Hope that counts!

Never tried an audiobook. I only have a 10-15 minute commute to work, though an audiobook would probably be better than our awful sportstalk radio and horrible selection of radio stations. I usually listen to my cds. I also have Dune on my to-read!

Rant by Chuck Palahniuk and Hells Angels by Hunter S Thompson (I like to trade off)

I'm reading around thirty to forty a year now thanks to my Kindle.

How do you like the Kindle? I value having the book in my hands and the satisfaction of turning the last page. Plus I like to support my local library, though they offer e-book rentals. I also don't travel much and have an iPad.

Give me a hard sell!

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

Will make 39 this year.

How about you?

EDIT: Just finished 40! Don't think I can make it to 50 next year, 1/week is a little much.
