Giant Bomb, what should I buy?! (PRIZES INSIDE, WINNER IS RED!)

This could be you.
I've come across some money ($100), and finally I can finally give way to my desires, thing is there's so many games out it's hard to choose but I'm positive Giant Bomb has excellent taste. If possible something game related, like actual games, or a peripheral, well anything really. Music even. I own a PS3 (PS2/PS1), a Wii (Gamecube), a PC and that's it.

What do you get if you help me? The person whose choice I pick gets the following:
  • Half Life 2
  • Half LIfe 2: Episode 1

So ALL you have to do is suggest a game or games or something else and you might be a winner.

It probably helps if you have a Steam account. I'll PM the details to the winner.

You can give it to me and I will be your life coach for a week.

Wait, do you have a list of games you already own? That'd help.

xD

Erm.. Mario Kart: Double Dash is my favourite Mario Kart game... Get that.

I pick The Dig from Steam. I know that it's only $4.99 and I should aim higher but I have fond memories with this game and would really like to re-experience this game just one more time... The atmosphere, the music, the story, it all melds together so well that it feels like a movie despite its pixilated graphics. Also at $4.99 give it a try and if you don't like it's not like you loss everything, the barriers to entry are low and worthwhile my friend.

OK, I'll recommend how to spend your $100:

  • $10 on Rogue Wave's "Asleep at Heaven's Gate" (music)
  • $20 on Shadow of the Colossus
  • $40 on Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4
  • $10 on flower
  • $5 on Metroid Prime
  • $5 on a Subway footlong
  • $2 on a six-pack of Mountain Dew
  • $8 on tax
And that's it. Some of the games can be switched around or obtained for less money, but that's really all you need.

@Video_Game_King: The list of games I have is too long to post, you could say I have most "big" games up until January of this year. But go ahead, I'll filter it out.
Posted by Willin

You could buy some of the older PS1 games like Ape Escape or Twisted Metal for cheap and there fantastic games.

Posted by Pazy

The Red Star? Its an obscure PS2 game thats a mix between a brawler and shooter (shmup style shooter) with some pretty funny boss's.

Donate the Ineedaname foundation, it helps those that need a name but are not given one at birth, I'm a sufferer of this horrible disorder.

Anyone else? Any more takers? Almost ready to pick one.

Infamous! You will have no regrets!

I don't want your prizes, but I've got a few suggestions:

The Sims 3
Tex Murphy series from GOG.com
The new Monkey Island episodes/remake
A subscription to an MMORPG - I suggest Lord of the Rings Online, but most have free demos.

I suggest buying Red Faction: Guerrilla and some Microsoft points for summer of arcade.

Take aways Subway Footlong, Metroid Prime, and Rouge Wave's then get Person 3 too.

inFamous is the answer.

But I already have Half-Life 2 and Episode 1 so my services are free.

Dude if you like mmo's give Everquest 2 a try, it's like the lost but better and more intelligent brother to Wow.

If you like FPS give Killzone 2 a try, you will not be dissapointed.

also if you into Hack n Slash type rpg's, give Sacred 2 a try on the PC or PS3.

Edited by ItalianHammerUS

If you have problems getting cash i would defenetly recommend Gamefly so u can get lots of games and save the rest for november

@ArchScabby: Let me just say, I don't buy porn, otherwise I'd be living on the streets.

Get some Microsoft points so that you can buy Battlefield 1943 and some Rock Band dlc. That's what I would do.

That's the point. nobody buys it anymore, so it would be something crazy, and you could be all like, "yo, I actually bought some porn!"  And people would be like, "you crazy man, you crazy!"

You can actually buy porn? Wow I thought they stopped doing that in the early 90's ;)

You probably should have put a comma in the title. They way it's written now makes it sound like you want to buy GiantBomb something.

Posted by sgjackson

Sure, you could buy video games, and you probably will.

But something's missing. That bit of internal fulfillment where you can listen to something, grin, and think to yourself, "MAN, I AM FUCKING AWESOME AND MANLY/WOMANLY."

The secret to this amazing feeling has existed since the early 1980s, and is called thrash metal.

Get one of the first noteworthy albums in the genre with Metallica - Kill 'Em All or Slayer - Show No Mercy, then check out one of either Metallica - Master of Puppets, Slayer - Reign in Blood, or Megadeth - Peace Sells, which are all regarded as some of the top albums in the genre, then top it off with some foreign badassery along the lines of Kreator - Pleasure to Kill or Sepultura - Arise.

Your awesomeness quotient won't know what hit you.

Either that or you're into pussy music and I just made the worst suggestion in the thread.

Posted by Kajaah117

Replacement parts for Jeff's Earthshaker machine...

Oh for yourself? Some commas maybe... or a bunch of good used games. Or do Rare a favor and buy Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts!

Posted by artofwar420
@Bucketdeth: No worries dawg, let's play Killzone 2 sometime, hell, anyone that wants to play, add me at my PSN name.
Posted by chronicsmoke

if your into 2D fighting games you cant go wrong with Blazeblue, best fighting game this year IMO

Trash Metal is your secret to that amazing feeling not everyone else. I happen to listen to some thrash metal but I would never dictate to everyone else what to listen to and would never call other peoples musical tastes "pussy". Its everyones right to listen to what they want to regardless of how "pussy" it may be to some. Its within my rights to listen to (among other things) Metallica, A Day to Remember, Adam and the Ants, Frank Sinatra and YTcracker, this is my musical tastes and no one has the right to disparage them.

This is the correct answer.

P.S
I dont have steam

Burnout 3. You should be able to get it for $20, and if you like it, check out Burnout Paradise.

Persoanlly id say if you like Burnout 3 to get Burnout Revenge (maybe Burnour Dominator if you have PS2/PSP though I havent played it) because for me persoanlly Burnout Paradist, though a great game in its own righr, didnt follow on from B3 that well due to its open world aspect making the races feel more spread out so less action as well as the fact I persoanlly felt a lot less progression compared to B3/Revenge. Thats me though, most people love it.

Morrowind is a fantastic choice as it will last you many hours, can run on less-then-decent PC's and is really cheap. I bought my copy for about $10.

Edit: I just realised we have been suggesting games for someone to buy without any knowledge of what he likes. All I can gather from his Giant Bomb account is that he likes Value's games and Metal Gear Solid.

Posted by ahoodedfigure

I never know how to answer these questions, as I don't know the tastes of the person asking usually.  I'd like to think the possibility in video games is enough that you should at least know what the person has seen to this point, and what they liked when they were seeing it.

Otherwise it's just conjecture.  :)  I'd like to be actually useful instead of scrambling around in the dark trying to suggest something for you to buy, especially since it seems like you will be inspired to buy a thing just through the casual mention of one of us here.

Ah, well.  Good luck :)

Maybe thats the point, if he looks at the suggestion and decides to just go with one to give it a try it will broaden his horizons since from his original post his horizons are empty.

If you yourself have no idea on what to spend you money on, then you should not be spending your money at all.
Seriously, put it away in your pocket for a couple more days, and during this time research about games/movies/music that might interest you.

You do not want to go living on impulse purchases.

Posted by turbomonkey138
@Sparky_Buzzsaw: Never thought i'd hear someone say that in a game forum .
Edited by artofwar420
@Lights_Up_The_Shaft: I am down with all game genres (I should update my lists), I guess the one thing I don't "love" is jrpgs, but the Persona 4 endurance run is making me change my mind.
Posted by KaosAngel

I already got both those games so I don't care about prize.

Buy some books.  World War Z, Zombie Survival Guide, The Road, and Twilight (if you're gay).  Use the rest to save it...and treat the wife.
