This is probably (okay definitely) the wrong reaction to have, but my first response to reading this statement was “holy shit, Malka needs to get his fucking ass kicked.” The gall of this motherfucker.
I was never a NeoGAF user, but I guess I'm surprised that there seems to be a lot of people who are looking forward to the site possibly coming back. Knowing what you know now about Malka, and having experienced him apparently unilaterally shutting the entire thing off with the flip of a switch, why would you ever dedicate one more second of your time to a site like that?
I think a lot of people feel a little lost without the community there. Evilore being a dirtbag doesn't really change the community there although continuing to support him has some pretty dire implications for it. People aren't really looking for Neogaf even to come back necessarily imo but the return of "Wrestling Gaf" because that's where they discussed the show with people they knew and liked or like me I just watched Red Oaks and was looking forward to seeing what people thought of the (really good) final season. Giantbomb doesn't know what a Red Oaks is, it appears. Because of the diversity and size of the community, you could find a thread on pretty much anything you wanted and get a pretty decent sized pool of people wanting to talk about it. And the thing is when I went to talk about Red Oaks, I just jumped into the conversation because people were already talking about it. It's a pretty powerful draw to be part of a community that sort of anticipates your needs. This has happened many times to me where I want to talk about something that I thought was new info and search for an find a thread that's already deep in conservation and I can just put my two cents in and get a response quickly. Conversation moved quickly there which is also hard to replace.
I would 100% hop back in if new ownership took over but just with Malka...I just can't :/ Hopefully, I can stick to my guns on that. It looks like that shouldn't be hard since he's killing what was increasingly my home on the OT side.
Bad people can have multiple victims and at different severities. The users that built a community that's been completely wiped are certainly victims *also* although losing a chill hangout spot certainly doesn't hold a candle to being the victim of sexual misconduct.
