Normal Game, 9 tribes. The number of tribes really impacts the game score since you get either new tech for free or a boatload of stars.

Always get as first upgrade the explorer

as for the tech tree i mostly play it by ear, since in these games it's quite tribe dependent, but I agree that going for roads is a must.

As for the giants over parks, you'll be dealing with quite a few tribes so the first 3 or 4 must be giants, the go parks

If you can get a couple of temples early on, since the amount of points at the end scales with time on map.

Of course all of this comes from someone with a max score of 56k so I'm sure there are better ideas out there

Not really no. Although there is sort of a kind of a timeline, all the books are self sustaining.

As you may have read they are divided in a couple of groups (wizards, witches, greater ahnk, watch, Moist and DEATH) and those I would probably say start with the first ones of each group. Or don't.

Reading the Vimes of night watch and then going to Guards! Guards!, and finding out how much he has changed can be a pleasure on it's own.

Just one thing, the writing style changes ALOT. In the first couple of books the style is much more... looser? until Pterry started lending his world views to his characters which turned a good fantasy series into a great series period.

I would say Thief of Time because it was the first one I read, but honestly any order is fine. Just buy one, start reading it, and then amaze as you suddenly have 23 Discworld books....

ok, let's do an exercise.

Remember all of the great things that Bret Hart did in WWF?

Now try to recall one thing that Bret Hart did in the NWO.

Got kicked in the head by Goldberg and stroked.

It really pains me to read this writeup having heard and read GiantBomb's possition since the game came out. Still remember how it was ignored during 2011's GOTY discusions and how it has been generally dismissed until very recently, with the word that DS2 was comming out,

I guess it's a case of better late than never...

Enjoyed the writeup Patrick, and you're right. You'd even love the game more if you'd played it when it came out (same for Demon's Souls). I guess you'll get a second chance with Dark Souls 2. :-)

Hi there from Portugal! A country that apparently doesn't appear in green on Microsoft worthiness map.

Some fine folks on this thread that know all the countries in the world make some very interesting points about it:

-I'm apparently from a country that doesn't have Broadband (I'm doing this with a 56k modem! It's a Texas instrument by the way).

Little bit of info, Portugal had the second highest penetration rate of Broadband behind Belgium in 2010, and this was before the fiber optics investments of 2011/12.

-I live in a country ravaged by War, Famine and Pestilence (actually only Death comes to visit, he likes the beaches.)

Another tidbit, our disposable income, while smaller than it was due to the financial crisis can actually support a new console. Oh and our spot of trouble with the financial thingy. Little secret here: IT'S GLOBAL. The only reason we haven't been getting as much support as Spain or Italy is due to European politics to long to be discussed here.

-I'm also from a country filled with members of the PC Master Race (weird with all those wars going on), that just pirate everything (and WITHOUT BROADBAND! We are some very patient pirates).

Again. It's quite a quick survey but from what I can see in multiple households I'm familiar with, if there's a TV, there's Cable, Broadband and a Console connected. Generally a Sony one. Can't see that changing now can I?

-Finally I DO remember steam. Heck I remember steam when Half-Life 2 was launched. And it worked as well here as it did in every country FROM DAY ONE.

Now I came into this generation owning all 3 of the consoles (Yes I have disposable income. quite a bit of it fortunately. I save alot by not having BroadBand, selling weapons to keep the war going and by pirating toilet paper). Might get the WiiU eventually, pre-ordered the PS4 and even with all this bullshit I was going to get The XBone day one.

Now? Fuck you Microsoft.

PS:: To everyone that is still going to get a XBone because you are in the shiny map. I won't begrudge you of your choice. If the concerns raised by this draconian DRM bullshit do not affect you, great I'm happy for you, really am. But to denounce someone who ACTUALLY HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THIS as cry-babies or hate mongers or whatever the word of choice is going to be tomorrow, is honestly... Seriously fucked up.

Straight from Amazon...

  • Kinect is included with every Xbox One. Completely reengineered to be more precise, responsive and intuitive with unparalleled voice, vision and motion technology
  • The console is driven by a powerful combination of CPU, GPU and 8GB of RAM, governed by an innovative OS architecture, to deliver power, speed and agility
  • Only Xbox One unleashes the vast and scalable power of the cloud for your games, entertainment and apps with Xbox Live
  • If you have an Xbox Live Gold membership, it works on Xbox One too
  • With Xbox One, you can quickly jump from TV to movies to music to a game.

Dude. Not hating on your choice of console just want to highlight 2 things

The console is driven by a powerful combination of CPU, GPU and 8GB of RAM, governed by an innovative OS architecture, to deliver power, speed and agility.

Good line. Tells me absolutely nothing about the fucking console.

Only Xbox One unleashes the vast and scalable power of the cloud for your games, entertainment and apps with Xbox Live.

True. Xbox Live will not work with the PS4. that cloud bullshit reads like a back of the box quote from simcity.

In regards to the question. PS4 showed me most of the architecture of the thing. And games. And the Microsoft presser was very much North American Centric. I live in Europe so those TV shenanigans means nothing, and I couldn't care less about fantasy American Football or Baseball, and I don't know what the exclusive content is for fifa yet. So I will probably go PS4 first.

Of course if Microsoft runs a great E3 I might change my mind. But right now it has a lot of catching up to do.

There is a petition going around to bring Dark Souls II to the WiiU: http://www.change.org/petitions/dark-souls-ii-for-the-nintendo-wiiu

Can't hurt, It worked for the PC version of Dark Souls.
