Indie Games I can't wait for!

What with the quality of indie games being so high these past few years, and how great Steam is for distributing them, I've gone full bore into the indie gaming scene. This seems to be one of the only places where you'll find new IPs. This is where all the innovation and most exciting games are, whose mechanics and concepts will then be copied into the bigger games. There are as many genres and art styles in the indie scene as there are in the AAA market, but the most popular seems to be 2D puzzle platformers and pixel art.

I love discovering indie games through the IGF, indieDB, RockPaperShotgun, and other channels. I love doing Wiki's for them. I love following the developers. Any genre that has been neglected as of late, there's bound to be an indie game for it e.g. survival horror with Amnesia (and soon familiar horror adventure games like Shadow of a Soul or Tower 22), tactical shooters with Frozen Synapse, and then the controversial inclusion of experimental "art" games (which I've grown to love since Don't Look Back by VVVVVV creator, Terry Cavanagh).

Indie Games I CANT WAIT FOR

1. The Witness

Jonathan Blow.

2. Gunpoint

Stealth (I love stealth!) puzzle game that lets you rewire levels to trick people, made by PC Gamer writer. Coming near July 2012.

3. Chasing Aurora

Aerial bird-racing action game with origami art style, from the developers of AND YET IT MOVES!

4. Closure

Won Grand Prize at IGF 2012. Where landscapes and objects only EXIST when your light is shone on them, and you can erase objects from existence by shrouding them in darkness. A bit like Alan Wake, but as a 2D puzzler.

5. Antichamber

Played the demo of this a while ago, blew my mind with the level design and clever sardonic humor.

6. Pid

Yes, another puzzle platformer but it's by the ex-Bionic Commando Rearmed guys.

7. BattleBlock Theater

The Behemoth (Alien Hominid, Castle Crashers) were the first indie developers I fell in love with from their Newgrounds start. Also, DAN "If you're not Indie, FUCK YOU" PALADIN!

8. Fez

Doesn't feel as original as when it was first announced, but still have a feeling it'll be the best 2D/3D puzzler.

9. Dyad

Do I want my mind blown? Of course! Reminds me of BRAINPIPE, which you all must play. Just be aware, the last level is bad for epileptics. Jeff Cannata was all over this game during GDC 2012.

10. Contrast

I love shadows! I love the art deco look. Hopefully fares better than Lost in Shadow.

11. Monaco

"Pacman meets Hitman". Won IGF 2010.

12. Botanicula

The next point-and-click game from Machinarium dudes. Exploring a tree with 150 screens, sounds great since I love the little adventure stuff (Arrietty, Honey Shrunk the Kids, And Yet It Moves).

13. Shadow of a Soul

Amnesia-like horror adventure game where you play a thief stuck in an office complex. Made by ONE dude.

Saw a vid of Antichamber on YouTube recently, game looks super clever.

I was a fan of the original name, "Hazard: The Journey of Life" but I guess that's pretentious and doesn't really tell you anything about the game :P

Wait, Frozen Synapse is a shooter? Does that make Valkyria Chronicles a shooter? And is it possible that I've just said something incredibly stupid?

My bad, should've just said strategy game. I don't know, what's Full Spectrum Warrior? *googles* Oh ok, that's a strategy game too.

Not even two-strapping! Gives me a Shut Up and Jam feel. Xbox Live Indie? The place where indie goes to die, surely. TEC 3001, such a great game, was relegated there.

It will be on Xbox Live Indie Games and also it's coming to PC, so since its gonna be on PC it can grab a bigger audience.

I hear the next game in the momodora series might come out this year.

@Grimluck343:

I recently played a the demo (should easy to find on google), I suggest trying it out before you buy the game. Not that it's bad, NOT AT ALL. Just that I had to admit to myself that I was not smart enough to play it. That game is very complicated, it demands a lot of you, and for me at least, it was also very frustrating.

Posted by Baconbot

Yeah, I am going to have to agree with your list.

Posted by Demruth

@MaxOpower: That demo is not at all a representation of the quality of the final game. 2 entire years have passed since that thing, most of which was spent testing the hell out of it and refining it constantly. Take that more as a very very early work in progress / alpha. It is NOT a demo of the final product.

Just thought I'd chime in and clear that up. ;)

@Demruth:

Thanks, I had hear a lot of good things about the game. And the game/beta/alpha was not disappointing, though very frightening. Good to hear that work have been done since then.

Now I remember, Dyad reminds me of Brainpipe!

Which of these will be on the iPad?
