Iffy writing and voice acting aside, this game is no less than a step forward for interactive entertainment.
My 2nd playthrough of ME2 was far better than the first. All expectations were put aside, and I just enjoyed this original space opera for what it is: A phenominal marrage of gameplay, narrative, and (maybe most inportantly) sound design.
The diffinitive developer of open-world gaming, makes the diffinitive western in gaming. Not all of the writing feels authentic, but are only noticable because the rest of the package is so amazing.
There was a moment playing this game, when I stopped for a second and thought about what I was actually doing; I was leading a civilization through history. Such a phenominal achievement in programming and interface design.
Bioshock 2 had a few nocks against it from day one. The original Bioshock lived on the perfectly paced unvealing of Rapture. With all of that already done... what more do you have? Bioshock 2 wisely focused on gameplay improvements, rather than atmosphere. And of course, there is enough new in Rapture to keep both sides of my brain happy.
