I'd like to get a reasonably powerful desktop PC which I would mostly be running CAD and Autodesk 3ds Max / other rendering programs on. Is a gaming PC reasonable, or does it make sense to get a workstation? I have read that for the most part workstations are not really necessary for home use, though they are specifically designed for CAD and rendering? Would it make any sense to build my own PC when I have no experience with it? It seems like it would be fun, but I'm not sure I really have the time to put into it.

Thanks, any thoughts would be appreciated!

Gaming PCs don't rely too heavily on CPUs (most games still run fine on the 5 year old i5 2500k) or RAM (for most games 8GB is more than enough) and instead focus on a monster GPU.

Building a PC can take as little as 45 minutes to an hour if you know what your doing, or 2 to 3 hours if you are completely brand new. Pcgamer.com has a number of recommended builds that are based on price that you might want to take a look at.

Sorry if this isn't particularly helpful. I have build Gaming PCs in the past, but CAD and Autodesk have never been something I took into consideration.

I have been playing lots of older classic games which were hailed to be some of the best of all time, but I honestly feel like much of that praise is nostalgia. Those games were really impactful back then, but with so many great games that came out in the past 10 years, much of the older games are obsolete.

Most acclaimed NES games had really rudimentary gameplay and inflated difficulty. I would say that there were probably more great indie games in 2015 than great NES games in general. Many N64/PS1 games have blurry textures and clunky mechanics, which were better refined in the 6th and 7th gen.

Final Fantasy VII for example was probably groundbreaking at the time, but since then, dozens of RPG's have mastered that formula ever better. The blurriness of visuals in the N64/PS1 era haven't aged well. Also, stories and plots which were once seen as profound are sort of cliche now.

I don't think anyone can really argue with you.

The NES is 31 years old, the PS1 is 22, the N64 is 20, so yeah, graphics are better now. Story beats and plot elements that were groundbreaking 20+ years ago have been copied and sometimes improved on.

Your argument could really extend to anything. Why collect old cars when new cars have better gas mileage, are more reliable, and are faster?

I guess my question for you would be, does a new Mario game in 2016 make Super Mario World obsolete? What about A Link to the Past? Is Street Fighter 2 bad now because Street Fighter 5 exists? Mortal Kombat 2 because Mortal Kombat X exists?

People like to throw the word "nostalgia" around a lot, but in many cases it does not really apply. I played Metal Gear Solid for the first time 10 years after it came out, when I was in college, but I still enjoyed it despite its "blurry textures," and "clunky mechanics."

Lost Odyssey is the best JRPG of the last console generation. If you like JRPG's you should get a copy.

I really wish I had finished that game, but the load times to get into random battles were excruciatingly long.

I haven't enjoyed Uncharted since the first one. Apart from the set-pieces and visuals, the Uncharted games are very average.

Maybe just play something else?

@asurastrike: K... a webcam is not on pair with a studio.

Kinda missing the point. Also, TFS Gaming has a studio.

Just spoil everything until we can culturally get past crying about spoilers. It's gotten ridiculous.

GiantBomb is owned by CBSi and has a profession studio, production people, multiple personalities, and they are releasing content on the same level as YouTube gaming channels.

Patrick Klepek, ProJared, Jim Sterling, TFS Gaming, are just a few examples of people making content for free at about the same level of quality as GB.

I will watch anything from GBEast though, they are great.

Can't decide which title is worse, Call of Duty Infinite Warfare or Battlefield 1.

I wouldn't take an Amiibo for free. It's just clutter.
