What am I playing this weekend?

Odin Sphere
This weekend will hail the return to my PS2, I found a rather cheap copy of Odin Sphere for £9.99 and apparently it was an awesome title. Seeing that I am a total Square Enix fan girl I thought I would give that a try.

As usual I will be parading around on Xbox Live with Call of Duty 4 and Soul Calibur 4. If anyone would like to play me just check I am online and send me a message.

Also on a quick note: I tried out Final Fantasy XI the other day. After 4 hours worth of patches all I can say with is that I am disappointed with this game. The control system is incredibly frustrating for a new user and is designed specifically for use with a controller rather than a keyboard. I am going to try connect my PS2 controller up and see how that works out but it's still an upsetting waste of my day. I stopped playing Granado Espada to try this out but I fair that the F2P GE is far superiour to the P2P FFXI. It doesn't matter anyone, I've never been a huge MMORPG player.

I think part of the reason people are so consumed by MMORPGs is that they tend to be all-consuming even during downtime, with their patches and control configuration and grinding and timed events.  I think there are some good ones out there, at least from what I've seen (I don't play them, really) but those tend to break the mold, so they're not so popular with the big-sword-and-pretty-tunic crowd.

Interesting to note that XI is geared toward a controller.  I thought it might be nice to play in a universe that was put together with the same care that Square put their other FF games, but I think MMORPGs sorta change how that care actually winds up reaching the world.

One Square game I wouldn't mind playing is Vagrant Story, but that's about as hard to find as the old PS1 version of Valkyrie Profile.

You know, I used to play FFXI with a lot of people I knew over the web and I enjoyed the heck out of it. But a lot of the game is waiting to find a group to do things with, because it is nigh impossible to do anything by yourself. Moreover, the party setup system in it is abysmal, which doesn't help. So once friends stopped playing or went beyond me, it stopped being as much fun.

As for the controller issue, that's actually one of the things I LOVED about it. I bought a PS2-to-USB connector and played it with my PS2 controller to much success.

Anyway, those days are behind me. But I am seriously hankering to replay/finally finish FFXII.
