@onyxghost: I guess the Halo franchise didn't accomplish as much in your eyes. I would have considered it the best franchise of our generation. Multiplayer gaming was virtually reinvented after Halo: Combat Evolved hit stores. You can't deny that. As far as the Gears franchise goes, the cover system was revolutionary, but it didn't do as much for multiplayer gaming as the Halo games have.
Don't judge me, but I've had Xbox Live for about 3 weeks so far and I can't put down Halo 3. It's addicting as hell, even if I have to put up with obnoxious twelve year olds yelling insults about how good my mother is in the sack.
It would also be different if I could actually see the cover system actually USED in the multiplayer aspect of the game. I noticed that the trend was to run up to your enemy and blindly fire a shotgun in his face, which isn't much fun at all if you've just come from the campaign, in which you absolutely must use cover to survive. It's similar to situations in other games where players exploit a single weapon or tactic resulting in boring gameplay. I dunno, I guess it was stupid of me to hope for a slower, more tactical multiplayer.
I'm thinking about getting either Call of Duty 2 or Call of Duty 3 because I want good online multiplayer without having to play Modern Warfare. Anyone share my thoughts?
