@Dixavd: nice. very good tips. thanks. i actually started upgrading my elite knight armor since i figured i'll use that for a bunch. as for play style i am kinda imitating matt rorie. having a longbow to lure or go ranged as the alt left handed weapon. the drake sword is my main and a spear without upgrades for fights taking place in corridors. I was going for a tank build first so I upgraded my END to resist a few attacks and be able to counter with the drakes sword. up until I found havel, which means I can also dodge a bit now. been going great.

how do you like the halberd? is it actually useful? I found the wide attack range was somewhat useless because usually you are in very tight spaces. also usually you should stick to luring one or the most two enemies at once. or do you have a different strategy?

what would be the "next" good weapon after the drake sword? is it a named weapon or should I buy, upgrade and modify one. just wondering if I should start investing in raising stats already, since with the drake sword it will not have an immediate effect

also...is ANY of the covenants useful if you would choose not to go the faith route?

@DelroyLindo: thanks. trouble is though that in the end I'll need 50 faith to cast the miracles with the sunbros and almost as many with the guard. so I'll still need a bunch of faith regardless

hm. is going for a faith / sunbros / divine combo build viable? then i can drop str entirely. right?

So I'm wondering what covenant to join. My problem is, that to use the Sun Guys, Princess's Guard or Darkmoon covenants I need a bunch of Faith. Problem is that I leveled Vit and End to around 20 and am using the drake sword. Soon enough I'll need to focus on Str and Dex to be able to use better weapons, so I can't really spend a lot on Faith...

Will I rack up souls like a madman later on or should I choose carefully? What covenant should I join? I'm a Knight and though to make a paladin with the miracles the Suns and the Guards would give me, but I'm not so sure now. Way of Light seems boring and not worth it. The forest people don't really give me all that much. Gravelord and chaos servant I don't really like, the dragon stuff looks interesting but also seems kinda useless in the long run and the last covenant seems really interesting, but also rather endgame (and evil)

any ideas, suggestions, whatnot? I'm confused

question about this: if I live in Germany and activate these games on steam the censorship stuff will apply, right? also if I DO NOT register them on steam, could I play an uncensored version?

would be really interested in all 3

i'm new. really liking the game so far. yesterday I messed up for the first time, because I was rushing. lost 7 hummanity and a few thousand souls. today I lost 2 hummanitys. that's a bummer. then I read that you can summon NPC-s for the gargoyle fight so I'll try that tomorrow. after that: get that awesome ring from havel, because I feel my knights lack of mobility is getting dangerous

that said, there is a huge thread on GB filled with dark souls tips so no wonder no1 has any questions

PS: after you finish those go for secret of mana

i wanted to ask this same question!

I'm going to get a 3ds xl as well soon and would also like to get 3 games for starters. want to vary them a little bit so I though about getting ocarina of time for some action-y stuff and picross 3d for the puzzles. the last one I'm not sure about. could you guy recommend some long and engaging game I can sink my teeth into? thought about that final fantasy tactics thing, although I'd prefer to paly through the advance one first. any ideas?

Final Fantasy Tactics-thing? so you're including the ridiculously huge DS-library in this as well? 'Cause there is no FF Tactics on 3DS. There's only Final Fantasy Tactics Advance (GBA) and Final Fantasy Tactics A-2 (DS). The original Final Fantasy Tactics is only on PSN/PSP. If you like those tactics games, Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars was the secret sleeper hit among the 3DS launch titles. The improved 3DS port of Tales of the Abyss 3D is also supposed to be pretty good. There's also SMT: Devil Survivor Overclocked.

If you really also want/need DS suggestions, I think you'll get a huge list mostly with games that often aren't in print anymore. Try Radiant Historia, Ninjatown, Retro Game Challenge, The World Ends With You, etc, etc ... there are probably tons of threads with DS-game suggestions.

eShop wise, take a look if something like Mighty Switch Force (recently received free DLC), Mutant Mudds or VVVVVV (best version!) are your thing. Oh and see if you can find Crush3D for cheap (retail). That's a cool puzzle game (updated port of a PSP game)!

so I get that you are way into the ds? :D

well the 3ds XL is going to be my first DS and the main reason I'm going to buy it WILL be DS games (with some 3ds titles sprinkled in ofc)

well I already checked the huge thread with ds games here on GB and got some nice ideas from that, just unsure about the tactical part, because just as jeff said, tactical games are the perfect handheld games. so I wanted something to play for hours and hours off an on. I thought there may be a gem like jeanne d'arc for the psp somewhere in the ds lineup.

anyways. thanks for the answer. I'll do some more digging on my own for now!

you shouldn't play 1. it is incredibly boring and barely holds up

2 has a nice story if you want to go chronologically.

about the versions: i'd go for the "complete" ones. 1 and 2 are available for the psp with nice graphical detail. 3 and 4 on the ds. i think there is no remake of 5

6 is on the ps1. from 7 onwards you may not like it if you are expecting cRPG stuff, because those games tend to be really flashy. that said I really liked these games the most because I loved the characters

7,8,9 are on ps1. 10, 12 are ps2. 13 is ps3. 11 is an mmo

personally if you want to go old school try 6 or 9, both of which are really great. 9 is an unknown gem and it manages to be both the funniest and most grim of the entire series.

7,8,10 are more of a spectacle and somewhat more serious in tone than the rest, but with nice stories

12 is really a lot like an mmo. so if you want to dig into a huge world than that's the way to go, just be warned that it tends to get repetitive

i have no idea about 13 but it seems to be a lot like 12

hope that helped
