Robinson Revue: Brad's Birthday!

Hey, you guys remember Kessler Kam and Lemon Lens, right? Well, check it: there's a new behind-the-scenes, intern-run video series in town, and it's called the Robinson Revue. As per tradition, it has a ridiculous intro, a budget of zero and all the Flip HD shakycam action you can handle.

This week in the office, we celebrated Brad's birthday and got him a very special cake to go along with it. Check it out:

Expect these to keep coming out pretty regularly as interesting happenings happen around the office.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot: here's a bonus video we put up on the YouTube page teasing today's new Quick Look. Yeeaaahh. Bet you didn't see that Eddie Murphy cameo coming, did ya?

Wiki Task Initiative #1: Sweet, Sweet Music

What up, homies? Who's ready for some wiki tasks?

Here's the deal. We're taking a note from what Ethan's been up to over at Comic Vine and bustin' out the freshest new wiki task styles here at Giant Bomb. That means that each week, I'll be filling up the Wiki Task Queue with new tasks. The hook: each week will have its own theme, and all the tasks each week will fall into that theme. Fun!

For this first week, the theme I've selected is Music. Why? Well, first of all, it's incredibly broad and allows for a lot of variety. When you scope out the list of new wiki tasks, you'll notice all sorts of shits for you to fill out, including game pages, character pages, concept pages, objects and more! The second, much more selfish reason is that it plays to my strengths. I'm a closeted Bemani enthusiast, and I know this stuff like the back of my hand. Not that these tasks are just limited to rhythm games - if it's at all related to video games and music in any way, it qualifies for selection in this week's Wiki Task Theme.

The Great Wiki Task Themes Chart. Bow before its splendor.
The Great Wiki Task Themes Chart. Bow before its splendor.

My personal goal is to keep somewhere around ten tasks floating in that wiki queue all week. Depending on how intensely you guys crush these tasks, that could be a pretty hard...task. Consider it a competition! If you guys can complete the tasks faster than I can come up with 'em, I'll eat my hat.

To make sure none of you valiant wiki editors get bored, I've gone the extra mile and written cute little descriptions for each of the tasks. I AM SO FUNNY AND YOU ARE SO WELCOME.

So yeah! If you guys wanna help out by contributing, head over to the Wiki Task Queue and get to volunteerin'!

By the way, if any of you guys have ideas for future wiki themes, don't hesitate to let me know! I'm very open to suggestions on how all this works.

I'm looking forward to working on this with you guys. Let's take the best video game wiki on the internet and make it the best best video game wiki on the internet! <3

Internal Affairs 06-30-2011: The Whiskey Media Intern Podcast!

The interns made a podcast! Yes, really!

Download (MP3)

Hey, you guys like Whiskey Media, right? Well, good! Because we ('we' being myself, Matt Kessler and Ben Pack) just created a brand-new podcast from within WM's hallowed halls. In it, we discuss what each of us have been doing here, how working at Whiskey Media has lived up to our expectations and a handful of other things that have nothing to do with Whiskey Media at all! Brace yourselves, homies.

Honestly, I'm actually feeling pretty good about how this dumb little experiment turned out. These two dudes might be the funniest guys I've met since moving to San Francisco, and recording a podcast with them was exactly as fun as I'd hoped. As I'm the one hosting this zany thing, Ryan was kind enough to give me moderately extensive podcast production lessons, so the whole thing came out sounding quite nice. We kept it short at under half an hour long, since you guys have no shortage of podcasts to listen to.

Depending on the response to this initial episode, this is totally a thing we could see ourselves doing on the weekly. A second episode would likely include appearances by the other two interns (at the time of recording, Lemon was busy with a Tested shoot and Steve II hadn't had his first day of work yet), as well as an email segment where we answer your questions on what life at Whiskey Media is like. Or on whatever you feel like asking us. We're not picky. Interns at whiskeymedia dot com. Hit us up, k?

Anyways, yeah! We're super open to your feedback about this whole thing. Feel free to leave a comment letting us know whether you liked it, what you'd change and what you'd like to hear in the future. Thanks for your time, duders!

Whiskey Media Internship, Day One: Pop, People and Power Outage

No Caption Provided

Hey! Guess where I am?

Today was the first day of my internship here at Whiskey Media, and so far, things are just swell. Like any good (read: overexcited) intern, I showed up to my first day of work 45 minutes early and kind of just sat around until Sean Coonce showed up and let me in. After setting all my belongings down, I promptly checked in on foursquare, inadvertently ousting Matt Rorie as the office's Mayor. WHOOPS / GREAT.

My week 1 intern duties include doing trailers and promos for Anime Vice, doing a little bit of manual labor and keeping the coffee flowing. Ethan assures me my duties will get more fun over the course of the next two months, but the other four interns assure me that Ethan is a liar. (They didn't actually say that.)

As much as a pain in the ass as actually moving from North Carolina to San Francisco was (short version: my flights were delayed and my luggage was temporarily lost), it's awesome to be here. I made sure to bring with me many culinary bribes to ensure that everyone loved me right away, and so far, it's working: Ryan is currently drinking some of the NC-exclusive Cheerwine soda I took here with me, and Steve seems quietly thrilled about the 3rd Degree Burn Scorchin' Habanero Doritos I brought him. Success!

All told, today was pretty damn productive considering I just got here: I posted a video to Anime Vice, created a few wiki tasks on Giant Bomb, and cleaned the whole entire kitchen! Gettin' things DONE, you guys.

It was also pretty productive considering the power went out for a while. Like, all the way out. Much as it did in the original Giant Bomb offices back in 2009, the lights simultaneously went out and all the non-laptop technology in the office completely stopped working (power outages tend to have that effect). With no lights and no clear ETA on when they'd be back on, two things happened: we shot a Kessler Kam episode (expect that later this week) and Ryan had me perform the classic intern task of leaving to get him lunch. It didn't quite go as perfectly as I would have liked, but it turns out that Ryan Davis is not the wrathful, unforgiving god you might expect. He is a lovely person.

And that's kind of my takeaway from Day 1 here at Whiskey: this is an office full of lovely people. The other four interns embraced me with open arms (not literally, thank christ), and all the permanent staff members have been ultrafriendly. Day 1 is just ending, and I'm already looking forward to Day 2. Is that weird?

A "hacker" sent me a death threat in Halo. This was my response.

Alright, so last night I was playing some split-screen Halo: Reach with a buddy of mine, when after one game I received a message from a guy ABSOLUTELY LIVID with me for my Halo-playing ability (or lack thereof). He spent me a sputtering, furious voice message articulating the various ways in which I was a "dumbass" and a "motherfucker." It all was very educational!
Anyways, I responded by sending him a smiley face. He didn't like that. Things escalated from there.

EDIT: It's been brought to my attention (about a million zillion times) that if you live outside of the United States, you can't see this video. Luckily, there's a mirror!  So if you live outside of the US and want to watch it, click here:  http://www.tubemirror.com/video/ewzDWdFBFH8

And now the video is on the front page of Reddit! Radical!

Anyways, I know this differs from my typical Bombcast fare, but I hope you guys enjoy it anyway. Me and my buddy (he goes by explodingbears here on Giant Bomb) stayed up all night editing the video. Without knowing that it might make you guys laugh, I don't think I would've, should've or could've have pulled that all-nighter. Peace, duders!

STRAP IT ON. (or should I say "NEVER II"?)

Back in 2009, I crapped out that "NEVER." video that y'all dudes seemed to like. Now, in 2011, I bring you "STRAP IT ON."

Just to temper expectations a little bit:  I'm strictly an amateur at this, and I actually wound up having to throw this together using entirely different video editing software than what I used for NEVER. That said: I hope you enjoy watching it as much as I enjoyed making it!
