Wiki Task Initiative #1: Sweet, Sweet Music

What up, homies? Who's ready for some wiki tasks?

Here's the deal. We're taking a note from what Ethan's been up to over at Comic Vine and bustin' out the freshest new wiki task styles here at Giant Bomb. That means that each week, I'll be filling up the Wiki Task Queue with new tasks. The hook: each week will have its own theme, and all the tasks each week will fall into that theme. Fun!

For this first week, the theme I've selected is Music. Why? Well, first of all, it's incredibly broad and allows for a lot of variety. When you scope out the list of new wiki tasks, you'll notice all sorts of shits for you to fill out, including game pages, character pages, concept pages, objects and more! The second, much more selfish reason is that it plays to my strengths. I'm a closeted Bemani enthusiast, and I know this stuff like the back of my hand. Not that these tasks are just limited to rhythm games - if it's at all related to video games and music in any way, it qualifies for selection in this week's Wiki Task Theme.

The Great Wiki Task Themes Chart. Bow before its splendor.

My personal goal is to keep somewhere around ten tasks floating in that wiki queue all week. Depending on how intensely you guys crush these tasks, that could be a pretty hard...task. Consider it a competition! If you guys can complete the tasks faster than I can come up with 'em, I'll eat my hat.

To make sure none of you valiant wiki editors get bored, I've gone the extra mile and written cute little descriptions for each of the tasks. I AM SO FUNNY AND YOU ARE SO WELCOME.

So yeah! If you guys wanna help out by contributing, head over to the Wiki Task Queue and get to volunteerin'!

By the way, if any of you guys have ideas for future wiki themes, don't hesitate to let me know! I'm very open to suggestions on how all this works.

I'm looking forward to working on this with you guys. Let's take the best video game wiki on the internet and make it the best best video game wiki on the internet! <3

Haven't done much in the way of wiki editing recently but I think I shall throw my hat into this.

This is a pretty good idea. I'll periodically check it out for things that I have some knowledge about, and I'll fill it in. You seem to be earning your keep mr. Babylonian.

And hey, maybe at some point be good moderators and not approve all that Wiki point exploit abuse? Awesome.

If you see wiki point abuse, it's probably best to bring it to the attention of the mods. Don't just assume they'll notice it.

It doesn't really help to complain about exploit abuse without clarifying what exploit it is that people are abusing.

Damn.

Anyway, i doubt it, i need huge amounts of mental and/or physical preparation in order to start editing a wiki.

...And don't just assume that I haven't. Do you think a clear enough forum is the Wiki Task it's occurring in? Yes? Maybe mods should spend more time paying attention instead of trying to appear o-so-adorable. I'm not a mod, it's not by job to look out for this stuff.

I am all for this, the more wiki tasks the more motivated I am to dig in on a page. For some reason the tasks make me want to work on a page even more, even if there weren't any extra points.

PM them. The mods are very receptive and it's job #1 to deal with this sort of thing.

@sofacitysweetheart: You should send a mod a message. I'm not sure what you're saying you did... did you post in a page's forum?

Wait what? Brad has to eat his hat! IW is releasing MW3... he said he would!

I really like the idea of themed tasks. I already liked the idea of tasks, because it achievement-ized something slightly mundane. Themes will only enhance my disturbing appetite for accumulation!
