A Baka's Game of the Year List 2014

I've never made a Game of the Year list, but hell, I'll give it a try. It's kind of funny though; last year I was able to keep up with most of the releases. Though I didn't get to play them until near the years end. I managed to finish The Last of Us, Bioshock Infinite, The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, and even Divekick. However, this year I fell way behind. I did play a lot of games, just none of them were released in 2014. Anyway, here's my top ten games.

List items

  • A game that took me nearly two years to complete. It felt like I achieved something truly great when finishing it. Persona 4 was full of memorable characters and moments.

  • Hey look, another long RPG. This one was totally different though. Despite being set in the typical fantasy land of Elves and Wizards; The Witcher managed to put a unique spin on the setting. Maybe that had something to do with it being filled with allusions to Polish literature and culture.

  • So anime yet so awesome. For being the oldest game on this list, the gameplay holds up really well.

  • A game so nice, I played it twice.

  • A great combination of FPS/RPG gameplay. The atmosphere captured the sense of isolation and terror expertly. I found the setting really engrossing.

  • Burial at Sea Episodes 1 and 2 made me fall in love with Rapture all over again.

  • Two words: Burt Reynolds. Oh and I played the entire story as Major Motoko Kusanagi.

  • It's a super sleezy, ultra gory noir story starring a cyborg-assassin named Mondo Zappa. And the title of the game is taken from a song by The Smiths. We need more games like this.

  • Old school-ass Final Fantasy with a nice new sheen. I never finished it, but enjoyed the hell out of what I did play.

  • OK, I have to confess. I haven't actually played this. Hell, it's still in the package.
