Nerdy Megaman post

Over the years Megaman has been one of my favorite video games series.  Megaman 2 is my all time favorite game.  Over these past decades I have created multiple robot masters to challenge Megaman and I thought that I would share eight of them with you.
Tread-man
-Weapon: Tread Cannon, fires a massize bullet accross the screen, pushes megaman back a bit

Gust-man
-Weapon:Hurrican Gust, full screen blast of air, can control the direction, press up to blow enemies up, press down to crush, etc.

Sphere-man
-Weapon: Bomber Shield, a large shield of bombs circle player, can charge up the shield to detonated all bombs at once.

Tide-man
-Weapon: Tsunami, fills the bottom of the screen with a wave of water.

Scorch-man
-Weapon: Flame Body, turns player into a walking fireball.  Adds fire element to basic attack. Player cannot be hurt by fire while this is active.

Pike-man
-Weapon: Iron Pike,  spear weapon that default attack is spinning attack around player, hold a direction for a direct, peircing strike (8 directions)

Armor-man
-Weapon: Power Suite, clads player in a suit of armor, 1/2 damage, move slower, can't jump, punch in multiple directions, punch is instant kill to all but boss enemies, weapon energy bar acts as life bar for armor

Tape-man
-Weapon: Duct Whip: player has a whip weapon that grabs and throws enemies. While equipped player can climb walls and walks on the ceiling.

Square

Has Square forgotten how to make console games?  The company is doing fine with creating portable games like Dragon Quest 9 and Kingdom Hearts, but their home console games have been lacking.  FFXIII sold well, but not that well.  Front Mission is a mess.  FFXIV is being lambasted by it players. Star Ocean, Neir and Blurr have all been some what of misses.  So what is going on?

Forget for a moment about sales numbers since that's not what I am talking about here.  What I am talking about is the company's lack of being able to deliver a good story AND a fun game.  One the home console it seems that the company is trying to target different audiences and missing completely.  Take Neir for example.  A VERY Japanese game, with a main character that was switched out for a grizzled old man for western audiences, that ultimately made no sense.  Save you daughter. Okay, but I'm sick and tired of fighting shadows, may I have another enemy please?

FFXIII took five years to develop.  Five...years.  What I played was not a game that was under development for five years.  The game is horrifically linear, the graphics do not have the usual polish, the dialog makes the player question their sanity, and then there's Snow. The most annoying character ever.  But I digress.

I have to question the company's management.  What are they doing?  Games are taking much too long to produce.  I understand the system shift that the company made with FFXIII and they pretty much started from scratch, but why are all their other games taking taking so long to come out.  Where is Kindom Hearts 3, where is the new Final Fantasy base on XIII?  Is Square stretched to thin or are they not managed correctly?  This company has been know to create some fantastic games with beautiful stories, have they forgotten how to do that?

What the heck, let's review some tech.

I know that this isn't Tested.com.  I realize that, but I can't think of anything else to blog about today.  So you might be wondering who the heck I am.  My name is Spada (pronounced Spay-dah) and I have been reviewing Transformer toys and other robot toys for over four years.  I've even been the host of a Transformers podcast.

Normally I wouldn't pimp myself out like this but today, I can't think of anything else I want to talk about.  So here is my review of the new 16Gb ipod nano.

If you don't feel like watching the video I'll sum it up for you.  The device is too small, the lack of any tactile feedback is a big problem and you should not buy one.  I will admit that the clip is a great idea though.

Hopefully tomorrow I will be able to blog about something that has to do with games.  Stupid Monday.

Werid-est thing happened last night...

Last night my wife and I went to a wedding for a family member.  Thanks to horrific directions we were a little late to the full mass service and thankfully missed most of the boring stuff.  We came in just in time to see them give their vows and say "I do".  YAY!

That's not the weird part.  Right after the 'I do' and the kiss the priest ask us all the "raise you right arm for blessing".  Slowly everyone there raised their right arms straight out and a little above their heads.  My wife and I gawked in horror as all 200 people there looked as though they were praising Hitler.  It took a few seconds but folks started to realize what was going on and they put their arms into a more natural, less Nazi position.  Hell, the camera-man was standing behind us whispered "oh that's just wrong."

Needless to say I was worried since I knew at any second that either Nazis or Nazi Zombies would appear at any moment and I left my shotgun at home.

No free time to play Civ 5.

As someone who works ten hour days every day I have found that my time is limited to play games of any sort.  Especially when the game requires a steep learning curve.  The is one of the reasons why I have not started to play Civ 5.  I have it downloaded and installed via Steam but I have had zero time to play it and when I do have time I'm scared that I won't have enough time to get into it before it's time to go to be at night.

See, I've never played a Civ game before.  I really want to give this one a try but I just don't think that I will have the time necessary to dedicate to it.  :(

Why no summer games?

Today it has been announced that Gears of War 3 has been pushed back to Holiday 2011.  Okay, fine but I am a little worried about something.  The past year or so has seen multiple games slip into differnt quarters.  Bayonetta, DMC, Gears and more are being pushed back in order for them to have a better chance at selling.  This I have no problem with.

What I do have an issue with is that these games are slipping into the first 5 months of the next year.  Why is this an issue? Simple, from September to May we are getting great games but for some reason publishers seem to hate selling games during the summer months.  June, July and August are still months that see very little in terms of new releases.  Why is that?  Is there some data that the publishers have that show nothing will sell during that time?  What is the reason?

The Bombcast...at 2x speed!

Wow. So today on my drive to and from work I was listening to this weeks Bombcast and I thought that everything was fine but found that the gang was speaking at a rather rapid pace.  Much faster than usual.  To be honest I really didn't think anything of it since I was doing my very best not to die in today's torrential downpour and I figured that Ryan might have been punking the listeners.  Let's face it, that would be something he would do.

It wasn't unit I was about a mile from home at the end of the day that I looked at the Ipod and realized that I had been listening to the enter Bomcast at 2x speed.  Think about that for a moment.  The recent hard drive / storage discussion was a 2x speed.  Jeff's fantastic readings of the Wii-ware and DSI-ware titles, at 2x speed.  But the best part had to be the music.  The opening song, the wii and dsi music, all at 2x is AWESOME!  If you can, I strongly suggest to listen to the Bombcast in 2x just once.  It's an experience.

3DS

With Nintendo finally pulling back the curtain on its new handheld, the 3DS, the question must be asked.  Does it cost too much?  Yes the device is launching in Japan first for what will most likely be a higher price than what it will sell for in the USA. But even if it launches for $250.00 USD that is far outside the "impulse buy" range for most Americans.

If the 3DS launches in the USA for $300.00 that price is the same as a 32GB Ipod Touch.  Needless to say, the Ipod Touch is by far Nintendo's biggest competition.  But for the price, what do consumers get?  With the Ipod, they get thousands of games and applications and most for less than $5.00. With the 3DS, they get 3D in their hands, Mario, Zelda and a host of other games.  But we have no idea what those games will cost.  Also, it has been announced that the 3DS will have a virtual console.  That's great!

Right now it is just too hard to tell if the 3DS is worth it.  Only a few games have been announced but no one will know what the system can do until they get their hands on it come Feb 26, 2010 in Japan.  Here's hoping the price tag is worth it.

Transformers

Why was War for Cybertron considered the only good Transformers video game?  TF: Armada back on the PS2 was good.  Hard, but good.
