Super Double Dragon is my favorite Double Dragon game!
Glad Jeff ended up not hating it and even finishing it.
I always felt that both the blocking/grabbing system and power up system were pretty nice additions, giving you something else to do. Kicking backward while grabbing onto someone is the shit.
Ok, you're right, the idea of concepts on the GB wiki is very interesting and generally a cool thing.
I'm just salty because it seems to me like the staff here always goes out of their way to not mention mobygames. The game browser there is very powerful and besides just being a good credits source, the exhausting genres and drill-down and sort options helped me remember multiple titles of games from my childhood.
Also it's just a bummer in general that there are multiple game databases with some information but not just the one. But then there is the other bummer about the content license used by all video game wiki sites which is not good at all. Having that content owned by the companies behind the sites is just wrong. Especially seeing the problems MobyGames had. I'm surprised and saddened that the new ownership hangs onto that license model.
Seeing this game always reminds me of that huge pile of garbage Tetris game that the interns at Ubisoft threw together in Unity that came out a few years ago, too. It was laughably bad. Especially compared to this game, wow.
And then having weird license issues on top of it causing the really good game not to be able to be released sooner outside of Japan due to the Ubisoft's shovel-ware having some kind of precedence? Or maybe that wasn't real. But maaaaaan....
That title screen where everything has a different pixel size (background, birds, fonts) really rubs me the wrong way... If the game later features smoothly rotated sprites it reaches the level of those flash games from 15 years ago which also completely missed the mark on being a nostalgic retro experience.
