Talking about this one: https://store.giantbomb.com/collections/mens/products/giant-bomb-script-logo-hoodie

I've been wanting to get this hoodie for a long time now in XXL, and on the last re-order, it sold out right away. Even the new hoodie sold out right away as well. I would take either, but I'd especially like this one.

I tweeted Rorie and he gracefully responded and said that he didn't think they were going to order any more of these, and reiterated that on UPF as well.

I think this is a killer design and given the fact that it sold out so fast, and the new one also sold out so fast, I think they wouldn't be left with a bunch of leftover stock if they did a re-order of it. So I just wanted to ask if anyone else wants this hoodie as well (and in what size)? Maybe if enough of us respond, it'd nudge them to do another order of these :).

Super bump. Guide has been updated with some new troubleshooting tips for Windows 8 and XvT, and the files have been reuploaded.

http://www.savingcontent.com/2014/08/09/guide-play-x-wing-tie-fighter-series-on-windows-7-windows-8-windows-8-1-with-an-xbox-xb1-playstation-ps4-controller-flight-stick/

Also in regards to XVT-- yes it was reviled. It was a stripped down experience, and requiring a joystick was also dumb when Tie Fighter played perfectly well with a mouse. I think no one played X-Wing Alliance because they were either turned off by XvT or the joystick requirement. It is a shame though because it probably is the best and fully featured game in the series.

In my opinion, No. I signed on to support a small group of underdogs and their different brand of game community. In short, the polar opposite of Gamespot. I still like the crew, site, and podcast but I disagree with this direction and do not expect to renew. Not that it matters, my lousy $50 ain't shit anymore with CBS in the picture.

What direction do you disagree with? The direction that made Jeff say "Fuck" over and over again 2 minutes into the Binary Domain Quick Look?

I've noticed that they don't love Mondays anymore.

Heh.

Jeff looked genuinely happy when he said "we're going home".

However, things could always be worse. This could be tested.com. Things here at GiantBomb are sort of in a state of "okay, shit seems to be fine... shit seems to totally be like it always was . . . so unless shit goes bad, it's all good for now", while Tested seems to be a case of "HOLY FUCK WHAT IS GOING ON HERE?!".

Very true, apart from the new eye-cancer inducing look, it is baffling how quickly they changed the format to multi-page articles for more clicks. The corporate touch wasn't very gentle over there.

If I see articles seperated into multiple pages on Giantbomb one day, I'm going to freak out because it'd mean shit isn't going well and the crew hasn't as much say in everything as they led us to believe.

The new tested forum design is awful. Every post has *way* too much white space around it, so much so that every post looks like a quote to me.

I subscribed to support the site both GB and tested now it's owned by CBS I don't think they need my sub to keep going.
You couldn't be more wrong. GB got bought because they have a good subscriber base. If you all cancel your subs then who would pay for GB? CBS isn't in the charity business. This whole deal is about GROWING their base, not losing it. I don't mean to pick on you, but in general it seems like gamers need some business lessons. From how DLC is made, to stuff like this, a lot of people assume this content can be made for free.

I doubt they care about the amount of subscribers paying rather the amount of traffic this site gets. I bet the ratio of paying subscribers to free subscribers is huge difference. Im sure if everyone canceled their subscriptions but continued to visit the site CBS wouldn't care that much.

Jeff has been very down on page view based advertising and believes is going away (in statements hes made since the announcement) which is why I believe the subs are a bigger deal than most people are giving credit for.

You guys are really playing with fire if you think you are going to cancel your subs and think CBS wouldn't care that much or that Giant Bomb could continue to operate as is.

I bet CBS will care, because I'm not paying CBS anymore. Maybe that all could've been avoided if they didn't get into bed with shitty old media corporations.

Well, I guess that's your prerogative if you don't want to pay any more. But GB doesn't all of a sudden of unlimited cash due to this deal.

I trust John Davison and Jeff and believe they are doing the right thing for the site. They have not been able to travel to Germany or Japan for the last few years and that sucks. I'm hoping they will finally get the chance to do that again because it would probably produce great internet :)

At best, GB brings in about a million dollars a year on subscriptions and that's before you strip out the $15 for shirts or store credit and transaction fees (so it's probably more like $700k). They did not buy GB for a whopping $700k (that would then be consumed entirely by the staff salaries). They bought it because of the platform and because of the potential eyeballs they could advertise to. Look at GameSpot. They've even spent months (or more?) trying to mimic what GB has done, with what seems like little success. So, buy the guys you can't properly imitate.

GB is successful, but it is very unlikely that they're looking at making CBS big bucks through GB subscribers. They're looking at the crowd it can continue to draw if it gets GameSpot's (and CBS's and CNET's) assistance in promotion and the value those eyeballs have in selling traffic (advertising). This is about buying GB because it helps them deliver a product (you) to their customers (advertiers). It is not about CBS saying "gosh, you know what we need to do? Buy that GiantBomb site, because we really want to focus on making the gamer our customer, instead of the advertiser". Old media. Old models. Simple as that.

Subscriptions might continue. After all, even GameSpot had subscriptions of some sort. Maybe they still do. That isn't where they get their revenue from, though. It's just a tiny little extra drop in the bucket to milk every ounce they can get alongside their real money-maker -- screenspace for ads.

I simplified the explanation a bit. Its a little more nuanced (it involves GS feeding people into GB to help grow both their page views; and perhaps also shifting GS to be a little more like GB in terms of fleshing out the personality of their editorial staff), but the subscriptions do fit in. As Dave Snider said earlier, keeping the subscription numbers up means they keep editorial autonomy because they are carrying their own weight and they will be left alone by management if they are making ends meet by themselves. $700k probably goes a long way towards covering their costs.

So yeah, they don't see big bucks through the current set of subscribers, but if that $700k of subscriptions evaporated, this would be a lot less attractive purchase for CBS.

Sometimes I wonder why there has been so little content recently on Giant-bomb... I know that there haven't been that many huge game releases this year, but surely they could have done another scrub league, another Endurance Run, something... I wonder if the CBS negotiations have taken up a large chunk of their time?

One week they only posted like, 3 Quick Looks and 1 review in a single week, and I thought to myself, these guys must, must, be doing this part-time.

I think the guys will pull through though, eventually. They just need to communicate that this isn't Giant-bomb running at it's maximum capacity.

Considering they themselves were probably involved in the business dealings, moving shit out of their old office, and moving into their new office, I'd say yeah thats probably why there hasn't been too much content.

I for one would love more scrub leagues. I think being in the GameSpot office would make it way more possible to do so as well because people there probably game a little more.
