@daavpuke: Thanks! Yeah the Metroidvania genre is definitely super crowded, but Ender Lilies really stuck out to me.

I need to get to some of the looper games of this year, I played some of Forgotten City and enjoyed it, and should finish it. Overboard! is on my list as well. I did finish Gnosia, very cool concept (basically a time looping social deduction game), but gets a bit repetitive by the end.

I know there was a lot of goofing on Dead or School, but I found it to actually be a pretty solid side-scrolling action game with some interesting RPG elements (a lot of loot, weapon upgrades, skill trees, etc.). I 100%-ed it a while back and enjoyed it - fairly long too, took me about 25 hours or so.

It's a bit rough around the edges from a technical perspective, but it has a lot of heart, and the combat is fun and pretty challenging at times. The narrative is surprisingly decent and I found the main character's simple desire to just want to do something normal like go to school in a fucked up apocalypse world surprisingly heartfelt, despite how hokey the conceit sounds.

I don't understand the weird horniness around the game from people online that Jason mentioned, other than the box art (which seems sorta out of place), that's not the vibe of the game at all.

Anyways, just wanted to say my piece, byeeeeeee.

Dungeon Encounters has been ticking every box for me, you can definitely tell it is directed by Hiroyuki Ito. It is bare bones in a lot of ways, but mechanically rich and interesting on the gameplay side. You really want to be exploring all the floors as best you can, you get a lot of important, game changing abilities and also need the AP from charting floors to be able to equip them. There are a lot of ideas in this I would love to see in bigger Square RPGs going forward. I’ve made it to floor 33 (or thereabouts) and am having a great time. Oh FYI, this was mentioned in the video, but this is not a roguelike in any sense as far as I can tell, don’t want people to get the wrong idea.

I wish I had a complete copy of Drill Dozer, let alone a sealed one. That's probably the one I'm most jealous of, love that game.

Same, loved it. Sad that it came and went without much fanfare, guessing a big part of that was this being self-published by CyberConnect2 (their first game they have done so for) and not having a marketing budget. Glad Jan is showing it off though!!!

The only two dub choices are Japanese and French, I actually recommend switching to the latter, it fits with the vibe of the game pretty well (especially given some of the text is already in French). It's mainly the narrator that switches over, but it's a nice touch. Apparently the voice actress is the same one who does the French dub of Zelda in BOTW and Ellie in Last of Us, so that's fun.

I adored the first game, sign me up for this!

Whoops, I feel stupid now! That makes a little more sense. I still stand by this looking a little more bland than the first game. Hopefully it is more than "we made it 3D now".

So…this is just a ripoff of Serial Cleaner with a way more boring art style? I don’t understand why this exists.

Metal Slug Tactics got me so excited, the peanut butter (Metal Slug) and chocolate (SRPG) they have combined are two of my favorite things. Seems like a yummy combo to me!!!

I'm also totally down for a Salt and Sanctuary follow-up, that's a great game.
