working over the summer allows me to afford things i would normally not be able to purchase during the school year. go go extra greenbacks!

the real problem is what do i spend all my tasty money on? well, this summer i decided to pimp out my entertainment center. a new tv was certainly in order, and the acquisition of my first stereo receiver and speakers to boot. i told myself that 2.1 was going to be just fine with me, but that slowly integrated into 5.1 (now pictured as of [9.13.09] ) as newegg had a pretty sweet sale on some nice polk speakers.

i've also recently fell into some money previously thought spent. rather than saving it, i decided to indulge myself a little and also purchase a ps3. now, if i am ever asked which system a video game enthusiast should buy i will usually recommend the xbox 360. its just my console of choice. but with a new 1080p tv (120hz) and the jonsing need for all things HD i bought a pretty sweet ps3 bundle (mgs4, kz2) and am enjoying blu-ray movies as well.

so far everything has been working out pretty damn well.

new and improved

i recently purchased a new computer over the summer with some left over tuition money and have been experiencing new and old games like never before. doom3, crysis, world on conflict, fallout 3, far cry 2, and left 4 dead have been eating up all of my free time.  but why is it that PC games are constantly being built for hardware that is unavailiable to consumers upon release? why do i constantly have to worry if my hardware and run the latest game without hickup?  is this why PC gaming is seeing a decline in sales/ IPs / platform exclusives?  where are the standards that reassure PC users that their currently hardware will be a viable platform for the next 5 years of gaming?  have consoles finally trumped their older siblings?
