1. Mount & Blade
This is, in my opinion, one of the best games of all time. The little boy in me has always wanted to command armies in the middle ages, and this game allows you to do it. This game is defined by a high level of freedom, a dynamic and realistic world, and awesome combat mechanics both on a personal level and a tactical level. Not to mention the game is really easy to mod. |

2. Rome: Total War
RTW is not without its flaws, but with certain mods (Europa Barbarorum!) it is one of the best of the best. In fact, EB is probably the highest quality mod in existence for any game ever. |
3. The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind
Another one of my favorite favorites, Morrowind has stolen hundreds of hours of my time. It's almost impossible to say too much about the atmosphere of this alien land. |
4. Batman: Arkham Asylum
Best batman game ever. Best superhero game ever. Best brawler ever. Wow. |
5. Dragon Age: Origins
The best of this style of RPG in years. In fact, it is my favorite. The complexities and dynamics of the characters are definitely far superior to what usually passes as "good". |
6. Half-Life 2: Episode Two
I think this is the current height of what the original started. It's a game of cinematic and narrative quality in a first person perspective. The ending probably hit me with an emotional response not seen in any other game for me. Some aliens gonna die. |

7. Half-Life
Half-Life (the entire franchise) is one of my favorite shooters. The storytelling has evolved over time, but it has always been the best of the genre. |
8. The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker
I haven't played Twilight Princess or any of the GB titles, but other than that Wind Waker is the best of the series, no matter what the Ocarina people say. |
9. The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
One of the earliest games I remember playing, LoZ: ALttP has a special place in my mind. |
10. SimCity 2000
My favorite in the SC series, with the perfect balance of realism and accessibility. |
11. Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal
This has got to be one of the best RPGs ever. |
12. Freespace 2
Freespace 2 is the epitome of it's genre. It's gameplay and story are both solid as a rock. |
13. Grand Theft Auto IV
My favorite GTA game. It is a much more focused game than its predecessors and in my opinion it is better for it. |
14. Spore
Spore is an imperfect game. Some stages of the game are weaker than I had hoped, but at its core it allows you to explore an endless galaxy and I love it. |
15. Super Mario 64
My favorite Mario game. Simply a whole lot of fun. |
16. Metroid Prime
The only Metroid game I've ever gotten around to beating, Metroid Prime is also one of the, if not the best FPS for console. |
17. SimAnt: The Electronic Ant Colony
I had a lot of fun playing this as a kid. |
18. Quake
This was my introduction to the FPS genre, way back when. It may not hold up to it's successors, but it's still important to me. |
