@K9: I spent an afternoon installing all the mods that he recommended along with the ENB that was closest to what he used (he uses a modded one) with pretty good results. Here's two average screenshots I got from it. I have better ones but they are on my gaming desktop, but these are the ones I uploaded to Steam so they are all I have access from on this laptop. Even with just the mods he recommended (he uses way more), I had pretty good results. And it runs just as smooth, if not smoother than it used to. These are low-res JPEGs from the Steam Cloud, I'll get some PNGs later when I am on my desktop.
XCOM: Enemy Unknown (I have 20-something hours on it in a 3 day period. It is addicting to say the least)
KOTOR2 (Already on it on OG Xbox but I want to play it with the mod that adds all the missing stuff)
Torchlight 2 (I wanted that and it handily went on sale yesterday)
Civ V: Gods & Kings (Was gonna get it when it came out but didn't. Good thing I didn't because I didn't have time to play it anyway and this way it saved me $22.50)
I plan to get more as I see fit, but I broke my rule of not paying more than $10 once already for XCOM so I will make sure not to again.
Came back to it after a rather long break, added about 10GB of visual mods to it (before I just had a few high res texture mods, no lighting mods or anything), and am having a ton of fun playing it again. I thought I had done a lot but there is still so much for me to do. Modding the game and tweaking it to look nice is a lot of fun too. I did that a ton for Oblivion and it is even better for Skyrim. Once you get an ENB installed, the modding feels even more worth while.
Picture from NeoGAF. Now if only I could get an ENB working.
It's way easier than it seems to get ENBs running. You literally download it, extract, copy/paste the content into your Skyrim folder in SteamApps/common while merging any folders that require it, and then enable a couple of things in Skyrim.ini and the other .ini file along with the .esb (or is it something else) files, which you can do from Nexus Mod Manager. It took me all of 5 minutes. It's the bajillion texture mods that take hours to get.
Here's a couple of mine I just randomly took a day or so ago. I only have about 20 visual mods installed and it still is a fair amount of space taken up. I'm not even close to done yet. Unfortunately I just have access to the cloud versions so they're crappy jpegs. I have proper screenshots on my desktop but that's turned off right now.
Even with all that extra grass there is absolutely no performance hits. The ENB I used had some crazy FXAA built in so everything looks crazy smooth. I used to force AA through the video card drivers but this looks significantly better and works better with the crazy amount of grass. My trees are still a work in progress. So are most of the character models. I have high res clothing and armour but the skin on the characters, and the faces, leave a bit to be desired.
A bigger SSD for my Mac and a 2TB HDD for my desktop. I can fit more games now so it is game related. I'm using my old SSD from my Mac as a boot drive for my desktop now.
I also bought a copy of Spy Vs. Spy for the NES complete with the box and manual and everything, but that wasn't Black Friday related, as it is a gift for my brother because when I was 4 we went to a video store that was closing with my dad and we were supposed to pick a game. He wanted Spy Vs. Spy and I wanted Bugs Bunny's Crazy Castles. My dad liked Crazy Castles too so we got that and my brother never did end up getting Spy Vs. Spy so I decided to right that problem 16 years later.
