Popped my shoulder at the gym, looks like more gaming. D:

As of late my life has basicly been video games and the gym, I am currently unemployed as it is hard to find work where I'm from, going to go to school so I think, any ways so like I said, my life, it is gym, and games.

On Friday I went into town to get a good workout at my favourite gym, it was going to be shoulders and back day, I was phyced, ready to go, after a bit of stretching, and a warm up set I picked grabbed my dumbbells to begin ever head pressing them, 85lbs, not too light, not too heavy, well on my twelvth rep my left arm was lagging a bit, it gave it a little push to finish my last rep when, crunch, ow. I dropped the dumbbells, thankfully no one was next to me, other wise their foot may have been crushed. I instantly was in some pain on my left shoulder, not too bad but I was feeling sick I was so worried about what i had just done, any ways, now I am taking time off till it heals, it seems to be going fast, but in the mean while I am gaming. I how been playing battlefield 3 as usual, but I am getting bored of it at rank 101, and so I am trying to get into other games I own. I tried Rez, got lost, World gone sour, got bored, Halo, got mad, Banjo-Kazooie, got bored of that too, so i guess I will try Rez again.

Any ways, this is my story of woe this week, I am bored, and a bit sad, I miss working out, but at least I have the GB forums, and games to keep me company!

My shoulders are all messed up and the joint does not function really like it should Its just too loose so I cant really OHP or even benchpress any more. Having your shoulder pop out when bench pressing is no fun. Fortunately, I had much less weight than usual on.

How does this happen? The only thing that comes to mind is bad posture/form? I don't even usually stretch before a workout and I've never hurt myself even pushing past the limit. I just always make sure posture and form are 100% correct at all times.

almost 2 weeks ago i fell doing curls with 100 pound barbell. worst was a scrape/ carpet burn on my face, it was forehead side head, and nose. i don't know i think i got dehydrated and fell. i took a break from working out. tomorrow i plan on getting back into working out. i took a week off.

let your shoulder heel up fully. when it doesn't hurt don't just think it's heeled all the way as if might pop again.

Again, bad form/posture? Dehydration would have had to been for numerous ours.

bad posture i guess, i was putting it down and i fell.

I take my form quite seriously, I took a video just to see my bench pressing form, and make sure it was right.

Which is not perfect, but it is pretty good I'd say.

@Beaudacious: My form is just fine, I simply straightened my arm too much, There really is not much form wise to fuck up with over head press, it was on my last rep, and the weight was not heavy for me, it was just right, it was just the fact that I locked out my arm, and I gave it too much of a push at the very end.

Over head press is an easy thing to injure yourself with, when I hurt my shoulder it was so subtle that the guy with me had no idea what happened, he said I looked fine then just dropped the weights.

I have also done this exact workout with this weight numerous times before with no issue, I just usually stop earlier to be safe.

@SuperSambo: Dur, thanks for the sarcastic comment, as I said, my form is fine, overall that weight is not too heavy generally, I have never struggled with it, and even then, I did not feel I was having a hard to pressing it on Friday, it was the last inch of the movement with my left arm. Everyone can have a slip up with their last rep from time to time.

I was on my 12th rep, that should tell you this was not super heavy, injuries don't always happen because of poor form, they often happen from pushing it too far, which can cause form slip ups or just be too much stress on the body. I know that with pressing movements not to push too hard, stop when I can't complete one with out a large bit of effort, but I fucked up, should have stopped at 11 reps.

Next time if you are going to comment, don't be a fucking prick, you did not see what happened, to pretend that you did, and don't always assume the worst. It is pretty easy to act like a form Nazi when you're not the one working out.

@stinky: Yeah, I will not be doing overhead press movements for awhile, and when I do, I will do them with a barbell.

had trouble with one side of my rotator cuffs.

doing the same exercise as i think you were doing and one side would "turn off" and become weak. almost like a pinch. you can feel it coming.

other arm was fine and was possible to do more reps.

there are exercises you can do to work them out if you have the same problem.

Nice technique...

It is better to do 1/2 the weight and getting everything spot on.

Form really is vitally important. You shouldn't OHP 85lb dumbbells unless your form is spot on.

Yeah my shoulder hurts when I do chins, so I'm sticking to rowing. But using some of the machines is good as a temporary substitute;) especially the flies-ish machine for chest.

@foggel: It looks like anything including delts is a no go for right now, when it stops hurting i think bench, squats, and curls will be okay, I did a pushup today, no real pain, but it is still hard to use that arm for much physical stuff.

I think I'll be skipping dumbbell pressing movements for awhile, and stick to the barbell, I sure how I can do pullups still.

@Lebensbaum: Yeah, it really is a nice game, last time I played it I completed a puzzle, it was pretty great.

I think I'll play some tonight.

Gaming and gym is my routine as well right now. But I busted my shoulder while climbing, so I cannot do any excersizes involving the delts. It sucks, but it is good timing as I'm about to take the train from shanghai to norway. Can't work out anyway.

You can do flies, dead lifts, squats etc though?

Ouch man, sorry about the shoulder, but good that you're looking on the bright side - more game time! I assume you mean you got lost in Fez? Part of the experience is not knowing where to go or what the boundaries are, so keep at it and you will be rewarded for your curiosity.

You should play Rez too, that game is sick!
