my launch model broke after 13 months (about 2 weeks before MS extended the RROD warranty)   but i fixed it myself using the xclamp repair, and i got another 2 years heavy use out if it, it finally dying in late 2008

I DO own an MS RROD repair what was a launch model that i picked up cheap  which is either an opus chipset OR another 205w chipset and it is still going strong however, but it is not my main console, if it had of been it may have died by now.

my main console is a jasper elite,

wow some of you are heavy on your pads!

I have got 3 pads on my xbox 360 (2 since 2006), 1 is actually broke - one of the sticks actually snapped.  The other one from 2006 is a wired pad, and is actually my most used controller, being used on both my xbox and PC.

the thumb grips are a bit worn but the pad works fine.

my 3rd pad is a black elite one which has barely been used.

i would expect at least 3 years heavy use before a pad would wear out, any less and i would be annoyed

With online down for over a month, this will dent a huge amount of peoples faith in the sony brand in general.

The service being hacked is one thing, but their inability to deal with it is what I find worrying.

the timing sucks for Sony, both consoles are hitting their wall now imo and the advantage of bluray is beginning to become apparent (finally) so they could have really got some new users on board, however this may scupper that.

personally I have decided to skip the ps3 this generation, not through any brand loyalty - there are games on the ps3 i would love to own) but just space issues and value for money.  I own an xbox, and just upgraded my PC to an extent that technically it floors both consoles.

I barely get time to play the games i do have, without getting myself another platform to gather dust.

Pick your titles and decide which console has more that you want to play.  I love the centralised hub that is xbox live, and also gears of war is my favourite franchise in the last 5 years so my choice is simple.

I would say what ever you pick, we as the consumer are the winners imo.  All platforms have some excellent titles and if you cant find a game to enjoy on any one of  xbox, pc, ps3 OR wii then maybe gaming isnt for you.

AND lets face it, if you have the time to commit to lots of gaming, none of the consoles are exactly expensive nowadays

In my opinion, with pretty much all multiformat titles now having a clear advantage on the pc, (in my opinion feel free to differ) that will be the platform to own from now on, until the next gen of consoles.

I just wish i could get my live achievements in games like metro2033, dragon age and mafia 2 on the pc.

LOL at least  I am not the only one.  The thing is, i REALLY fancy giving dragon age origins a go, its just deciding which format to pump for.

GFWL is *almost* dead now (thanks goodness DiRT3 is still one) but
Bethesda have jumped ship, The new batman wont be live (no physx either which is a bummer), certainly more companies seem to be dropping live than picking it up, and you know, I "get" it, Steam is a superb digital delivery platform - superior to Live for sure (although i personally like a disk and box if i am paying close to full bubble for a game).

its just those god damn live achievements i miss.

Hell no, At the time it offered stuff which we had not really seen on a console, however imo it had some of the most boring maps of an fpser ever, and Halo 3 trumped it in every respect (Not played Reach yet and ODST is, in short, garbage)

(if you want to split hairs, Halo is already compatible on the xbox 360 and it IS upscaled so you could argue you already have HaloHD)

<ouch!>  (and i STILL dont have seriously 2.0  but i am not far off now)

in (distant) 2nd place it must be either Forza 3 or DiRT2 (DiRT2 spread over 2 platforms Xbox and PC)

FlatOut is imo the most under rated game on the xbox.

Army of 2 also a good game which costs pennies.

Overlord is great fun.

Hi

Just got back into PC gaming after a good few years of Xboxing....

And boy how i miss xbox live achievements.  Even if games are not GFWL how nice it would be to be able for MS and steam (and maybe even Sony) to come up with an agreement to not merge accounts as such, but to merge achievements.

My PC is so much better than my xbox, and games like Metro 2033, Dragon Age, Mafia 2 and the like are so much better than on the xbox, however due to no live achievements i find myself not playing on pc, and becasue its inferior on the console i do not play on the console, so ultimately end up just not buying - net result a lost sale.

I realise this site is trying to scratch that itch and i appreciate it, but its still not as good as officially integrating it so that when i am on xbox i could see my points for my PC games.

Achievments are such a pointless thing, i wish i could just get out of the habit of them, but they are some how addictive..

which brings me to my final thing...... my autolog on EA PC games has ended up fragmented from my xbox one... is there anyway to merge PC autolog into giantbomb as i cant see an option for it.

cheers

M.
