Well, the image they're using for the logo (for example) is the size at which it's displayed at 100% (110px x 75px). I don't know how or if separate images are being loaded for the iPad (they use the same image for all screen widths, as far as I can tell), but fixing it for the desktop would be as simple as switching out the low res one for a high res one and scaling the background down to the size of the div. I think IE still has problems with scaled .pngs and aliasing, though.
Arrow keys. Probably started with Thief, but I've never been able to make the switch to wasd because I like being able to easily tell where my fingers are without looking (easy with the arrow keys because they're in the own little group). I've also never had a reason to change. Usually use numpad 0 for jump, rshift for sprint/walk, rctrl for crouch, return for reload (handy because, apart from jump, none require me to move fingers from the movement keys). Other stuff I put on the numpad or the clump of keys above the arrow keys (usually weapon select stuff up there).
What you're seeing is the extent of what people can get away with under the current rules. It would happen anywhere. The only way to fix them would be to impose more strict rules about how people can conduct themselves, but you have to be very careful not to limit opinions just because they're unpopular. Managing the community like that would take a lot more work, and it's probably not the direction they want to go. I think they should perhaps reconsider the current rules - after all, they're spending a huge amount of time building a new site for a community to play in, and if they think the posts they're seeing are so bad they should probably try to make it a better place.
