Do people have a strong attachment to the Suicide Squad in general? I skipped both movies, but I’m continuing to assume that it’s coasting on the wide popularity of Harley Quinn and no one else?
It’s just always struck me as a somewhat obscure pull from the comics compared to an Avengers or Justice League, and as much as the Warner movie and video game execs are trying to insist that people know and care about the Suicide Squad, I continue to question if that’s even remotely true.
I ask because maybe I’m an outlier among nerds, but my own gut feel is “just make a Suicide Squad game” is already a crazy gamble in the first place, let alone making it a live service shootey game (already an over saturated genre).
It definitely has the vibe of a monkey’s paw wish that multiple site users complain that Dan isn’t on the Bombcast enough, and then when he is on, the audience realizes they’re getting 2023 Dan whose vocabulary has passed the wrestling event horizon. Shoot, gimmick, heat, etc.
I do wish more of the staff were over wrestling, but sadly in the current lineup it seems like only Bakalar fits that category. Everybody else is a pretty active fan so it seems to come up all the time. Can’t win ‘em all, I guess.
The comms are so remarkably bad anytime Giant Bomb ever plays a co-op game like a battle royale or PvE game like Deep Rock Galactic. It’s a time-honoured tradition. I think the only time they pulled it together was for GB Crime Crew because the feature depended on it and they had to coordinate to finish those GTA heists.
@xenonxylophone: lol yeah, my entire recollection of this game is that the gunplay is ROUGH and the game is much more tolerable if you spend most of your time sneaking around doing stealth melee takedowns. The hand-to-hand combat isn’t bad if you level it up a lot, I guess, but I remember there being some missions/scripted sequences where it is just not helpful.
Also, as much as I love the podcasts and other features, I think GB's best work has always been multi-creator Let's Plays. Endurance Run, Beast in the East, even Sonic 06, ha ha. I'm glad to see more stuff like this.
I would generally agree. Even short form stuff like This Is The Run and Going Rogue are incredible stuff.
I remember having a genuinely fun time with the game. It’s very uneven, and the balance on the different skills/playstyles is way off, but on the missions where this game works, it *really* works.
