June and July Vita lineup and upcoming titles

I missed June, so here's another double month of my list of current and upcoming games for the PlayStation Vita.

The new releases this month fall mostly in familiar patterns. There's the platformers like Furwind and Super Wiloo Demake, the 2D puzzle games like Word Wheel and Mochi Mochi Boy, and a Kemco JRPG Asdivine Dios. A there are a few noticeable aberrations though, like first person puzzler Neon Junctions, rhythm game Conga Master, and adventure game The Tower of Beatrice.

As I was putting this together I also did a little cleanup, moving several titles to the Vaporware list. I'll try to do more of this in future updates, as now with the Vita in its twilight years it's to be expected that a lot of developers will move on to newer platforms.

Come back next month as Ratalaika's release onslaught continues with horror indie DISTRAINT:

May Vita lineup and upcoming titles

We've reached the end of May, so here's my list of current and upcoming games for the PlayStation Vita.

May was a solid month for releases, opening with Vblank's retro open world crime simulator Shakedown Hawaii. It continued with another batch of Ratalaika indie ports like My Big Sister, Devious Dungeon 2, Back in 1995, and Warlock's Tower, as well as more of Kemco's retro JRPGs in the form of Frane: Dragons' Odyssey. Finally, acclaimed visual novel The House in Fata Morgana: Dreams of the Revenants Edition made it's appearance, courtesy of Mighty Rabbit Studios.

Looking forward to June, it seems Ratalaika has no intention to stop the ports, this time releasing Neon Junctions:

April Vita lineup and upcoming titles

It's the end of April, and here's my list of current and upcoming games for the PlayStation Vita. Embracing my tardiness and the fact that most Vita releases these days tend to be unannounced surprise drops, I think it's safe to say to now expect these posts as a summary at the end of the month instead of a upcoming release schedule as was originally intended.

April was Ratalaika month, as the released a gritty sequel to the Three Little Pigs named Iron Snout, shoot 'em up Super Weekend Mode, and the Space Invaders-esque Zeroptian Invasion. Also released was puzzle game Crossovers by POWGI, and yuri visual novel Nurse Love Syndrome.

As for new games, anthropomorphic platformer Furwind is comming to the Vita, slated for a "summer" release and a limited physical release courtesy of Eastasiasoft. Demon Gaze developer Experience also announced a new DRPG titled Aoki Tsubasa no Chevalier (Blue Winged Chevalier) for Japan, though at this point an English version seems like a long shot.

Come back in May for Shakedown Hawaii:

February/March Vita lineup and upcoming titles

...and I'm back. Sadly, I missed February, so it's a two-month double bill this time. Also a big change this month, in that I've axed the European and Japanese sections. It's been a good while since there was a Europe exclusive release, and most of the new releases in Japan are visual novels that are unlikely to ever be brought over. But with those caveats, here it is again, my list of current and upcoming games for the PlayStation Vita.

So the big new release these months was undoubtedly Fate/Extella Link, a second entry in Marvelous' hack 'n' slash take on the wildly popular Fate franchise. Also notable would be Code: Realize ~Wintertide Miracles~, a collection of side-stories for the steampunk otome visual novel. And Night Trap, the infamous FMV game that led to the establishment of the ESRB in the 90s. Beyond that Kemco keeps putting out retro JRPGs, and you have the usual smattering of indie platformers and puzzle games.

For new game announcements, surprisingly NISA is bringing over Utawarerumono: Prelude to the Fallen, which is a remake of the original Utawarerumono game, originally released on PC in the 2000s. Degica is also releasing Nurse Love Syndrome, a sequel to the previously released yuri visual novel Nurse Love Addiction.

And I think we're done. Since I missed my chance to post it last month, here's a trailer for Fate/Extella Link:

January Vita lineup and upcoming titles

It's January. 2019. And believe it or not, the Vita games are still coming. So without further to do, here is my monthly list of current and upcoming titles for the PlayStation Vita. As usual it is focused on the North American market, with Europe and Japan exclusive titles in their own sections below.

Headlining this month is NightCry, the kickstarted spiritual successor to SNES classic Clock Tower. Beyond that there's puzzle game Pic-a-Pix Pieces, Kemco RPG Asdivine Hearts II, retro adventure Planet RIX-13, action adventure Heroes Trials, metriodvania Necrosphere, and narrative adventure Drowning.

Looking at new game announcements, we're getting two shoot 'em ups. Vasara HD Collection is a port of two sengoku-era themed early 2000s arcade games. While Horizon Shift '81 is a retro shooter with a Atari 2600 aesthetic. Dropping out of the upcoming list is Catherine: Full Body, where it turns out the western release will only be for the PS4, and the Vita version stays Japan only.

And we're done. Come back next month more steampunk otome with Code: Realize: Wintertide Miracles:

December Vita lineup and upcoming titles

I guess I should just stop calling this late and accept it as the new normal. Anyway, it's December, and here I am again with my my monthly list of current and upcoming titles for the PlayStation Vita. As usual it is focused on the North American market, with Europe and Japan exclusive titles in their own sections below.

Turns out this was a surprisingly active month in terms of new releases. The centerpieces were of course Persona 5: Dancing in Starlight and Persona 3: Dancing in Moonlight, but bunch of indes came out as well - including Super Life of Pixel, Emerald Shores, Energy Cycle Edge, Dragonfly Chronicles, Scintillatron 4096, One Word by POWGI, and Dreamwalker. Also released was Atari Flashback Classics, a compilation of 150 early Atari games.

As for new game announcements, it was pretty much all visual novels. Kogado Studio revealed they're bringing their girls love adventure Yumeutsutsu Re:Master out in English on the Vita. While in Japan, the classic EVE franchise continues with EVE: Rebirth Terror, Silverio Trinity set off more debate surrounding Sony's new content policies, and a new Memories Off game is coming as well as a Giga joint called Full Kiss.

In my continued efforts to clean up old, out of date entries, I've removed Children of Morta as the Vita port has officially been canceled by the developer citing the technical limitations of the Vita as a platform. The games Phoenix Force, Last Inua, Unmechanical, Klaus, and Wild Season have been moved to Vaporware. While I couldn't find a formal statement by the developer on the state of these ports, the lack of news since the initial announcement them make it seem highly unlikely that they're still being worked on.

Finally, I've simply removed the retail section from the list. While there are upcoming physical releases, they mostly aren't "retail releases" but rather limited runs sold from the publisher's website. And window for new physical releases is coming to a close, as Sony has stopped taking new orders for them in the west, and publishers are finding their allotment of the remaining game cards too limited to put out everything they wanted.

And I think we're done! Come back in January for... hmm... doesn't look like there's any releases confirmed until Code: Realize: Wintertide Miracles in February. I expect something will show up though, so maybe I'll go back and edit in a trailer then.

November Vita lineup and upcoming titles

And it's time for the "not quite as late as last month" edition of my my monthly list of current and upcoming titles for the PlayStation Vita. As usual it is focused on the North American market, with Europe and Japan exclusive titles in their own sections below.

Out this month is an enhanced port of Japanese shoot 'em up Gundemonium, as well several retro indies like action platformer Revenge of the Bird King, horror puzzle game Slayaway Camp, and brawler I Am The Hero. Also out is Advance Wars-like Mecho Wars: Desert Ashes, a remastered version of the 2009 PS Mini by the same name.

Looking at new game announcements, there wasn't a whole lot. Mainly the very 8-bit action platformer looking Ghoulboy in the west, and a dungeon crawler RPG based on the KonoSuba franchise in Japan.

There was unfortunately another notable announcement this month, namely that the Vita version of 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim has been cancelled. So I removed it from the this list. Further, in trying to clean up the older parts of the list somewhat, I looked into another batch of titles. Turns out The Hero Trap was formally canceled a few years back (though they only announced this to their Kickstarter backers making it easy to miss,) so it has also been removed. Red Goddess: Inner World, One Way Trip, and Gunship X have been moved to vaporware, as it seems unlikely the devs are still active, let alone working on a Vita version.

And I think we're done. Come back next month for Persona Dancing!

October Vita lineup and upcoming titles

Gaah, coming down to the wire here, but it should still be a smidgen of October left when I post this, and I still won't have missed a month. So let's get into it - here is my monthly list of current and upcoming titles for the PlayStation Vita. As usual it is focused on the North American market, with Europe and Japan exclusive titles in their own sections below.

The notable new release this month is horror visual novel Death Mark, developed by Experience it marks a bit of a departure from their standard dungeon RPGs. Other than that Kemco is releasing another of their retro JRPGs called Chronus Arc, and there's a selection of indies... platformers Halloween Forever and Perils of Baking, shoot 'em up Fast Striker, boxing game Pato Box, retro rail shooter Chicken Range, and puzzle game Word Sudoku By POWGI.

Not a lot of new games this month, mainly horror puzzle game Slayaway Camp, indie Revenge of the Bird King, and it looks like we're getting a port of Atari Flashback Classics. In Japan they're still pumping out visual novels, well, unless Sony's new ratings policy puts a halt to that. See below for the full list.

And I think we're done. Come back next month for seminal classic Night Trap.

September Vita lineup and upcoming titles

Uh, yeah, what can I say, bad month. However it is still September, and my record of not missing a month is still intact. So lets get straight into it, here is my monthly list of current and upcoming titles for the PlayStation Vita. As usual it is focused on the North American market, with Europe and Japan exclusive titles in their own sections below.

Out this month is visual novel Punch Line, a companion to the anime series with the same name written by Zero Escape creator Kotaro Uchikoshi. Also published were a slew of indies, including shoot 'em up FullBlast, platformer Sigi - A Fart for Melusina, action platformer Super Mutant Alien Assault, narrative adventure Stay, platformer Jack N' Jill DX, JRPG Revenant Dogma, and metroidvania Timespinner.

On to new games... We're getting a new game from Battlefield developer DICE! Well... one they started 2 and a half decades ago for the Sega Mega Drive but was never finished or published until Strictly Limited Games picked it up. It's Project Hardcore, and it's due out next year. Also announced were a bunch of indies like brawler Hamsterdam, Thrust inspired side scrolling shooter Plutonium Pirates, side-scrolling action RPG Knight of Exile, brawler I Am The Hero, detective RPG Pixel Noir, platformer Emerald Shores, survival horror Back in 1995, and Japanese shoot 'em up Gundemoniums.

Over in Japan, Konami revealed a 2019 edition of the Pro Yakyuu Spirits Baseball sim. There were also several visual novels coming, including a remake of Root Letter called Root Letter: Last Answer which replaces the 2D art with photos live action photos of actors and the actual locations in the game.

Finally, some slight pruning of the games list. In spite of regular assurances that it was coming, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night for Vita was formally cancelled last month. And while they were probably due to be moved to Vaporware anyway, the collapse of Telltale Games puts the final nail in the coffin for the long delayed Tales from the Borderlands and Minecraft: Story Mode ports. I also deleted Wing Kings, as it turns out that was just the working title for the already released Rogue Aces.

And with that, I think we're done. Come back next month for Experience's horror visual novel - Death Mark.

August Vita lineup and upcoming titles

It's August, and admittedly still a bit late because my first version of this post was accidentally deleted. While there was a ton of new games to keep track of, I've stared doing the less pleasant housekeeping work going through the older announcements and checking to see which ones have been officially canceled, which are still in development, and as often happens - which have just faded away into vaporware. But more about that a bit later, as we get into my monthly list of current and upcoming titles for the PlayStation Vita. As usual it is focused on the North American market, with Europe and Japan exclusive titles in their own sections below.

New releases this month include adventure game The Dreamlands: Aisling's Quest, puzzle platformer TETRA's Escape, word search puzzle game Word Search by POWGI, and Super Life of Pixel - an expanded port of the retro platformer originally released on PlayStation Mobile.

New titles added are pixel horror game The Long Reach, Punch Out inspired indie Pato Box, shoot 'em up Full Blast, and retro platformer Sigi - A Fart for Melusina.

And so we come to the previously mentioned housekeeping section. I went through a dozen or so of the oldest announcements, and most of them ended up being moved to vaporware - Snapshot (one of the first games announced as part of the "new" indie friendly PlayStation), James Pond 2, Death Ray Manta, The Chaos Engine, Yatagarasu/Legend of Raven, Samurai Gunn, and Road Not Taken. For many of them there were simply no news for years, possibly even since the original announcements. It may also seem as if the developer has moved on, or even shut down. While of course sometimes it will turn out that a developer was simply quietly plugging away at the port and it suddenly shows up on the PSN store one day, that seems increasingly unlikely with these titles so off to the vaporware section they go.

I've also removed the "Unconfirmed" section. Infinifactory was as it turns out confirmed as canceled by the developer on Twitter, and Kero Blaster and King of Dragon Pass never went anywhere beyond the initial rumors.

And I think we're done. Come back next month for adventure game/visual novel/anime tie-in Punch Line. While it is created by Zero Escape's Kotaro Uchikoshi, it's probably... not quite what you'd expect.
