Ehhhh, he was multifaceted, like most people, but still INCREDIBLY bitter and angry. And most of his writing is intensely misanthropic.
Being angry was what he was known for, but as you say there was more to him. His friend, Babylon 5 creator J. Michael Straczynski, posted a nice little anecdote on his Facebook page about a less known side of Harlan.
@blacklagoon: they dont have an alien holding cell anymore either, so even if they did capture an alien, they wouldn't be able to hold it
Well, that wouldn't matter when it came to the weapons, as they'd still get the alien grenade if the captured alien had one. But sure, they'd forfeit any other bonuses they might get from it.
@matiaz_tapia: You can't upgrade the grenades in the Foundry, you can only give yourself an unlimited supply of them once you've already acquired one. And so far they haven't, given that they don't bother capturing any aliens alive.
So how close are they from actually beating this game? I played through XCOM 2 because of PS+ and the game felt incredibly short compared to what I've seen here.
Final stretch now. They need to find at least one psi capable soldier (preferably not a rookie), do the priority research, and then build a thing. At that point they can start the final mission whenever they feel ready.
@foggen: Sure, but the damn thing just dashed straight into his entire squad, letting Dan wail on him for entire round, and then decided to just hang around to for seconds after spreading out its damage instead of actually killing someone.
Alex could have salvaged the situation by risking a Exalt raid on South Africa after the terror mission. The potential increased panic in Nigeria and Egypt would have been an non-issue then, and successfully completing the mission would have reduced panic in Australia and India. Instead, now they've even forgotten to go an intel scan again, and will likely be attacked by Exalt soon.
All in all this goes into the long standing problem that each commander is focused on their specific missions, and decisions about base stuff are poorly thought out and made haphazardly. When something goes wrong on a strategic level all three just pass the buck to the others thinking they it's not their responsibility because their mission went well... And then they end up getting an F.
I think if they were to try this feature for another game like this (say XCOM 2), Vinny definitively needs to get a clearer mandate to run the base stuff because the others barely do.
@duskulblaka: Not true. Falsely acusing a former XCOM member increases panic in all the remaining countries on that continent. That could put Nigeria in peril unless they put a satelite on it.
