This thread's purpose is to now guess the game in question.

Hmm... New Little King's Story?

He said it was something they've already covered, so presumably it's either Street Fighter x Tekken or Jet Set Radio.

EDIT: Well, he said reviewed specifically, and they didn't review JSR.

For someone who wants something a bit inbetween, there's also UFO: Alien Invasion.

It's free and open source, though still a bit of a work in progress.

As for the smaller scale, I didn't play the original X-Com so I don't know how many soldiers you could bring into a mission, but I think the smaller teams means that you have to be extra careful not to let your soldiers die.

The initial troop transport could carry 14. The best one could carry 26, though there wasn't enough cargo space to bring a full loadout for all the soldiers so you generally were better off bringing a tank or two instead the final group of troops. And, while, yes, loosing a single solider was probably less detrimental to a mission, keeping your soldiers alive was generally very important to the long term strength of your teams in the orignal, as their skills improved with every mission and they eventually became vastly more reliable than raw recruits.

And this reminds me, no tanks in this one?

I'm guessing you missed the part where the Firaxis guy noted that the UFO in the game was one of the smaller ones? Larger UFOs implies larger maps.

Only to a point. The limited squad size would make maps as large as the original a real tedious affair, and wouldn't really make sense with the more aggressive, faster paced gameplay they're focusing on.

Yeah, you can get by just fine on a Ubuntu machine. Hell, if I could play all of my games on Ubuntu, or a different form of Linux, I would leave Windows behind. Not that I dislike Windows, I just really like Ubuntu.

It depends a bit what you want to play, but if you start messing with WINE, you'd be surprised what you can get up and running. Heck Windows 95/98-era games are sometimes easier to get running under WINE than they are on Windows Vista/7.

I believe he did the Gravity Rush one which probably was the last Vita release that got a review. As someone who just bought one, I hope to see more coverage of the system....so I don't feel like I wasted my money

He did write a bit about the Vita version of Sound Shapes in his review also. It's too bad Sony couldn't get a solution for this by now, since there's a bunch of new games coming in October. We might at least get something for Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward through the 3DS version. It's a neat little visual novel/mystery/puzzle game with parallels to the Cube and Saw movies, and a follow up to the cult NDS title Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors. I do think it's something at least Patrick might be interested in.

Sigh, any chance for Vita Quick Look EXs where the devs bring their hardware for recording, like I assume Atlus did for Gamespot's Persona 4 Golden preview?

That phone guest was terrible both in terms of quality of the call and insight he provided.

I dunno, he had a very one sided "games as business" oriented view, but I though the bit about Metacritic's influence on publishers - to the point where they give poorer deals to developers who haven't got high average Metacritic ratings, was quite interesting. And kinda depressing.
