Are you serious? Who buys this stuff?

Been browsing Amazon a lot recently, for obvious reasons. Even though I ended up spending pretty much all of the money on my Mom in Christmas presents for her, I've still continued to look around (and add stuff to my wish list, because they run a wish list sweepstakes every Christmas) and I am constantly shocked at just how much money certain Amazon-affiliated retailers are trying to charge for some things.

No Caption Provided
I mean, really? $400 for a still-shrink-wrapped copy of Sonic Advance 2? I've also seen $103 for a copy of Jet Set Radio Future, $93 for a copy of Konami Krazy Racers, $90 for a copy of Metroid: Zero Mission... but none tops this:

No Caption Provided

You're reading that right - nearly $1000 (plus shipping!) for a special edition version of the Ghostbusters videogame with the Slimer Statue - a videogame that came out barely even six months ago. Who in their right mind expects anyone to pay $1000 for Ghostbusters? Let alone $99.97 for a copy of Sonic Adventure 2: Battle? None of these games are even that rare! Are there actually idiots out there who pay this much for stuff like this? Because I can't imagine it makes too much business sense to say "Hey, yeah, I'll charge you $400 for Sonic Advance 2... or you could buy it from this other guy for $35. Better yet, $9 for a used copy. But if you feel like spending $400, I've got you covered!"

I'm kind of speechless, over here.

Dude, it's Sonic Advance TWO. They're practically giving it away at that price!

Seriously though I was never sure if the people putting prices like that were kidding or were actually expecting something out of it.  Although the 1k for Ghostbusters is definitely a hoax.

That is crazy.  I don't know who they'd be marketing that towards... maybe hoping there is charitable rich person who just wants to give money away... or perhaps a person will accidentally click the $1000 game and then accidentally enter their credit card and shipping information and accidentally click buy.  I don't know... seems weird.  I wonder if that stuff ever sells. :/

Yep, a scary Sonic cult does exist.  I'm not kidding, they're all over the web and youtube .. I used to watch funny videos of this black guy bashing them I think his username was blackbustercritic or something, but I began to feel more sorry for him after a while, so I stopped watching.

God, there are a bunch of idiots on Amazon.  That's why I hate shopping for used stuff on Amazon and prefer eBay.  Sure on eBay it's an auction, but I've gotten games off eBay for dirt cheap.

It's not just Sonic, though. How about $110 for a copy of Final Fantasy VI for the GBA? $106 for this Ironman Xbox 360 game. $200 for Warioland 2. $150 for Powerstone 2. $111 for Madden 09 on the DS. $100 for a N64 controller. $500 for a Gameboy Advance with Pokemon Crystal. $80 for Legacy of Goku on GBA.

I could keep going. It's not hard to go in to their videogame section and sort by most expensive.

For some reason, people think things are worth more than they are.
How much is a sealed Catrap worth to you?  It's only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.
But this joker on ebay relisted it, because the winning bid the first time was just over $20 (and I didn't think that kind of thing was allowed if the auction didn't have a reserve price set).  He even says so in the item description.

Whoops. Well the game seems advanced to me.

I was going to say it should be called Advanced because it's on the Game Boy Advanced but I just went to the GBA page and it uses Advance too. Man, I've been saying it wrong since that thing came out.

Posting something on Amazon doesn't cost you anything, however Amazon will take a cut from it. Same applies to Half.com. So posting things at ridicolous prices is fine, some people like to have a stock of what they have listed and then they can adjust their pirce if they ever want to actually sell it.

Also that Slimer Ghostbusters Bundle has been a daily deal a few times on Amazon at least the Wii version has.

Thats when you turn to Game Quest Direct for old games, my friends.

Check it out! Not only is Sonic Advance 2 reasonably priced, but $24.99? You dog you. Oh! They also sell games for older systems brand new at reasonable prices?

Whats even crazier is that none of those games you mentioned was mind blowingly good or rare, that price is ridiculous.  I am ok as a gamer never having played any of those games.

It's not just video games that appreciate in value, almost everything else does too. This isn't something new. If a game is high in demand but there's barely any copies available, the price raises. That's how business works.

I get that, but it can't be in that high of a demand if you have ten sellers, and at the bottom end of the spectrum somebody is charging $8 for a game and then you have some moron asking $400 for the same thing. That's like going down to a Farmer's Market and you have one crate full of apples that's $1 per apple, and then right next to that is another crate full of basically the same apples that wants $15 for one.

Who's going to sell out of apples first?

I have thought about that before?  Putting something regular at a very high price (NOT lieing in description though) and maybe some collectors might think it is special and buy it?  They would have to be stupid but there are alot of stupid ppl out there... :P

Sometimes you might privately sell an item that's also on an auction or retail site, occasionally the website won't let you pull the auction, so you just knock the price up that high and let it end.

I've had to do it. But it does make you look like a bit of a dick. Or a bit more of a dick in my case.

Right under the Sonic Advance 2 price it says you can buy it from a different seller brand new for $35.99.

There are other brand new games that were release years that are selling for like four dollars.

There is no reason as to why brand new games are selling for ridiculous prices. There are enough copies of the games that are being sold for huge prices made, so it shouldn't be sold at a high price. They would have to be rare in order to sold at shitty prices, but there not.
