Turtles in Time Comparison

Been a while since I blogged, so I will throw you a bone.

I did up this video comparing all three versions of Turtles in Time (Arcade, SNES, XBLA) and I guess I got featured for it on Gametrailers and everything. There's a version on my Youtube channel if that matters, too.  I guess there's another comparison video floating around out there, maybe an official one or something - I didn't know it existed until just a few hours ago, so maybe mine's better or something. Who knows!

Outside of that, I'm on the look-out for my next video review. I was considering Wind Waker since I recently completed that... but we'll see! But whatever it is, it won't be another platformer, because technically, that's what my last three video reviews have been about.

Listening to the music during the comparison portion, I just couldn't figure out how Ubisoft screwed up in that area.

Nice video. I don't see why so many people are hating on the new remake. It's a remake, of course it's going to be different than the original. While I still find the SNES version to still be the best, the new remake is still a lot of fun. The new music is pretty cool too.

I'd rather purchase the SNES version.

Dude. They ruined Shredder's laugh in Reshelled. Also, Krang looks incredibly lame in the first level of Reshelled and his voice is just pathetic. The game's new art style is kind of neat, but at the same time, it makes the game look so much more bland and boring. They definitely should have let you switch to the old-school graphics. The music also takes a downgrade in the new version, and the gameplay actually appears to be a lot more dull. Seeing the SNES version in particular brings back good memories and I'd really like to replay it. Even right now. I'd pay $10 for a straight port of it without a second thought. I love Turtles in Time. Maybe it hasn't held up well, but it still looks fun as heck to me.

It seems the SNES version is definitely superior to the other ones. It doesn't have the lousy arcade voice acting, and overall everything just sounds better.

I don't think anybody has ever said anything concrete, but there's probably licensing issues surrounding the music. Even when Ubisoft included straight-up emulated versions of the original Ninja Turtles Arcade game and Turtles in Time in one of the PS2 TMNT games, both games had new soundtracks, even though nothing else about them was different.

Good video. I still find it rather puzzling why they chose to redo the arcade version instead of the SNES version, but with 4-player co-op...perhaps the changes they'd have to make would've resulted in more work? It would've been worth it, at least...

But that doesn't make any sense. Re-shelled isn't a port, it's a from-the-ground-up remake.  They wouldn't have to re-write any of the code or anything to "make room" for the SNES features, because they were writing their own code.

I think it just shows that nobody at Ubisoft actually knew what they were doing. It's hard to believe that anybody on the team that made the remake actually knew the differences between the two versions or cared which one they based it off of. I mean, all you have to do is play through each one once. They aren't even long games.

I'm pretty sure Ubisoft saw an emerging trend and wanted to cash in on the idea without actually caring about the source material they were updating. Unlike Bionic Commando Re-Armed, which was made by a group of people who clearly loved the source material and updated it in thoughtful and meaningful ways, Re-shelled is instead just a limp translation with some awkward changes that don't really make a whole lot of sense.
