Game of the Year 2011!!!

There's a lot I could say on all of these games, i'm going to try and keep it all brief though.

List items

  • It lived up to and surpassed all the hype and expectations I had for not only a Batman game, but one of my favorite games of all time, also. The story, the characters, the setting, the sound, the acting all comes together near flawlessly. Oh, and that ending is pretty damn great too.

  • I loved the story mode, challenge tower, couch vs mode, everything. I don't think that there is a game I sunk more time into this year than MK, I can't wait to see what they're going to do next.

  • To me, this was my favorite Uncharted game, I wasn't the hugest fan of two, I loved it but not nearly as much as the first. I may be in the minority of that opinion but I wasn't as hyped for Uncharted 3 as most others were, but once I did get my hands on it I played through all of it in one sitting. I haven't been able to say that about a game in years.

  • I wasn't particularly sold on the fact that the creators of the Ace Attorney series wasn't making another Ace Attorney game. I was damn near ready to write this game off all together until I played it, once I finished the tutorial I was hooked, the writing and characters in this game are second to none, and the fact that they tied up every single little thing they did and made it so there couldn't really be another, gets mad respect from me. It's creative, it's beautiful and it's got a story and characters you care about, it's a game no one should miss.

  • Dead Space was kind of an underdog when it first came out, I still had hope because I liked the setting and tone it was going for. It was a hit and then a couple years later Dead Space 2 showed up, and did everything a sequel should do. It was brilliant.

  • Fus Ro Dah!

  • Most major game franchises or game series' in general don't do what this one did, they don't give an ending, they don't give closure. Gears 3 did all of that and they managed to humanize the stereotypical bulky space marines they originally were, seeing these characters change and become vulnerable is something we'll never see out of the Price's or Master Chiefs of gaming. I'm not saying that there wont be another gears game, but they sure ended this one well.

  • Impressive facial tech aside, Team Bondi and Rockstar managed to craft an adventure game in an open world setting with wonderful acting and story, we probably won't see another one of these games again, and it wasn't perfect by any means, but there's very few games like it and it's a game that needs to be seen to be believed.

  • The moon.

  • I'm not a fan of Mario, never have been. I appreciate what he's done for gaming but I've just never liked him as a character, or liked many of his games, but even I can appreciate the creativity in the level design of this platformer, you're never doing the same thing twice, it's got challenge, it's just plain fun, and the way it incorporates 3D in the platforming is wonderful. Oh, and it's pretty damn beautiful too.
