Au Revoir!

So, many of you may know that I'm leaving Giant Bomb. I've made the decision to serve God, and I'll be working as a religious missionary in both New York and Bermuda for the next two years. I take off tomorrow at 11 am. During that time, I will have minimal access to a computer, and zero time to play games, browse the web, or be around Giant Bomb. It's sad, I know, but I'm excited. Excited to grow up, excited to learn, to meet people, and excited to see parts of the world I never have before.

I know some of you may disagree with what I'm doing, and that's totally cool. I want to let you know that I'm not the type to be pushy and insulting, and never plan to be. My goal as a missionary is to share something that has brought me great joy with others if they desire that I share it with them. The last thing I want to do is shove my beliefs down someone's throat, and be insensitive towards how other human beings feel. I hope to give service to all sorts of people while I'm gone, religious or not. If you can't respect what I'm doing, I hope you can at least have some respect for my goals.

I've really enjoyed being a part of Giant Bomb for the past year. This is a very special community, very large, yet many users are very close to each other. Many of the folks here know a lot about games, as seen in the wiki. It's exciting to see the site's wiki grow every single day, and I'm very proud of the product we've been working on as a community. Some of the best pages are those that many people have worked on together. The Prince of Persia page, for example, has grown a lot over the past few months. When the game first came out, it was barren. I went in, added some location and story info, and called it a day. Since then, many others (looks like LiquidPrince, mostly) have come in and fleshed out the skeleton I left, making it a great, detailed page. I'm always happy to see pages that GB has more detail on than Wikipedia, as well as those obscure games with more detail than we ever needed, like the Princess Debut page which has been lovingly crafted by Endogene, Aersia, LordAndrew, and others.

I'm very glad that I had the opportunity to be a forum moderator. I really hope that my actions have made the GB forums a better place for everyone. It was an honor simply to be considered for the post, and I've enjoyed working with the entire team. MB, Hamz, TheBeast, CitizenKane, suneku, and Kush are all awesome guys, and getting things done was never a hassle or a challenge. I wish that people I worked with in real life were as willing to contribute as everyone on the GB mod squad.

Giant Bomb is, without a doubt, the number one gaming site on the internets. I'm sad to say goodbye. It's been a pleasure to get to know so many of you guys. I'll miss the raping and pillaging with Sweep in Age of Booty, Team Fortress 2 with Thordain and everyone else, and the shenanigans in the IRC. Good luck to everyone. See you in two years!

Oh, I have one final request, too: As I will be gone, someone must buy Fez in my honor. It's going to be amazing, and I just know it won't sell as well as it deserves too.

So long, and thanks for all the fish!

It's great that you're dedicated to your beliefs, although it'll be weird not seeing your crazy antics on both the forums and the IRC, BoG. You're an awesome duder, and you'll be sorely missed by everyone.

Good luck, and I hope to see you again in 2 years, bro.

Posted by TheFreeMan

I can only wonder what it must be like to give up all of this to help better mankind in your own way.

Best of luck to you in your endeavors, good sir.

HAVE FUN !!!!!!!!

Posted by Black_Rose

Even though I don't share your beliefs I wish you the best of lucks in everything you do. You've been an awesome mod and e-friend and I hope you comeback someday.

Posted by Nasar7

Good luck, brother, see you in 2 years. Not all of Giant Bomb consists of heathens ;)

Posted by StarFoxA

Dude, it will be weird not having you around. You were an awesome moderator, and a great contributor when it came to the wiki. I'll miss you.

Posted by ShadowKiller

I'm sad to see you go BoG you were a great mod but I'm glad your following your beliefs. I hope you have fun and have a great experience and maybe I'll see you around in 2 years.

Posted by Diamond

Oh man sorry to see you go.  Now that I think about it I think you were my favorite mod.  Always liked your music quiz threads too.  This place is going to be dog shit without you.  Fuck this place!

Maybe it won't be that bad.

Posted by LiquidPrince

Be safe man. I assure you when you return, you will be remembered by those who matter.

Posted by artofwar420

It's all good BoG, I'll remember you as the guy that lived in the same state as I. Happy hunting ; ) Will you come back? Maybe not, seeing as you'll probably get married the moment you step of the plane. *joke* Have a good mission.

Posted by Claude

That's awesome... you're going on your mission. I met some fine fellows many years ago from Utah "1990". They knocked at my door and we soon became friends. We discussed religion and being the curious sort I am they indulged their knowledge. They also liked making amateur movies and they were very good. Action stuff, explosions with forced perspective... I always wondered what happened to them.

You take care and enjoy your spiritual journey and remember. You'll always have my Vote. I'll probably still be here when you get back.

Posted by auspiciousqueue

It was great while it lasted. I wish the best for you in all you do. Be safe and in 2 years, I'm guessing we will still be here.

Posted by albedos_shadow

Congrats, man, best of luck.

Posted by Thordain

Goddamnit BoG, you were a good mod. Best of luck out there, you better not be eaten by cannibals. Not enough good mods out there.

BoG is just a mirage, anyways.  = P

We'll miss you and your gunslinging antics.

Aren't you going to visit GB every now and then BoG?

@Thordain: You better change your damn icon right now. It needs to go into retirement until he leaves.

That's an odd decision...  Take care.

I don't think missionaries can use the internet for things other than emailing family and close friends.... BUT... maybe BoG can sneak a post here and there.

Good Luck Mate :)

We salute you BoG, god speed. We will all miss you and hope you become more enlightened from this.

Good luck!

One day I'm gonna give up on life and just walk the earth, like a shepherd without a flock.

GB won't be the same without you, BoG. Go for the gold, young Skywalker!

Edited by Pepsiman

We may have worked on different sides of the GB aisle in our moderating tenures, BoG, but naturally I wish you the best of luck in your endeavors as well, good sir. IRC is definitely going to be an emptier place without your presence, though. But if it's for the sake of going off and doing something you're passionate about then... I'll let it slide. This time. I dunno about next time, though. That could be pushing my generosity a tad.

Pepsiman: The only one to leave well-wishes and vague threats in the same post. :D

...I swear to god, BoG, if you're not back here in exactly 2 years... I... I... I don't know what I'd do... :'(

Je vais manquer. Vous souhaitons un bon moment de servir...

Good luck, make sure to post when you get back in 2 years.
