Same. Not something you should be required to do, at all, but it does seem to work.

@bawalo: What would you rather him say? People that are upset but still here from the Whiskey days are going to be upset no matter what because there is literally not a single person *staff member remaining from those days.

This Rorie erasure will not stand.

I’m guessing Gamespot editors didn’t get a lot of choice in the matter, and I wouldn’t expect the Giant Bomb team to bad mouth a site owned by their parent company publicly, no matter what they may think privately.

Not a fan personally, but this, I’m sure, was a deal done way above the pay grades of those participating.

I don’t think that’s accessible though, not to the kind of mass market a SW game needs to serve. Fallen Order finds a kind of balance to that, it’s not perfect, but it’s closer to that kind of style while remaining accessible, particularly with the difficulty options.

My major complaint with the Star Wars video games is that they aren't fast enough with the combat. In the movies, blasters are generally one hit kills and take huge chunks out of walls when they miss. The fights are punchy and fast. However, in the games, lightsabers always end up taking multiple hits to down things, and it takes multiple shots with guns to kill anything, even though they both cut through just about anything like butter in the movies. Fallen Order is a major offender in this regard - it really shouldn't take 8-10 hits to cut down a droid.

I totally get this, but it would be incredibly hard to make a fun game, where a Lightsaber is as powerful as it's depicted to be. There was actually a good article I read the other day on USGamer about the history of the Lightsaber in games: https://www.usgamer.net/articles/from-history-of-the-lightsaber-in-games

Really minor bug, but I noticed recently that the time counter on the scrubber seems to be tying the display bubble to the length of the scrub bar. This means as you get closer and closer to the end of the video, the display gets more and more squished. End result is it ends up like the below.

HTML 5 Player & Progressive player both display this behaviour. Tested on Chrome Version 75.0.3770.100 (64 bit).

Tested on my work laptop, also using Chrome and had the same issue.

Also tested using Edge for the giggles and that actually displays as expected, so suspect it's a Chrome issue with how it's rendering the video for the native players (Youtube embed is fine when used for free videos)?

So, this probably passed by a lot of the folk based in the US, maybe even within Europe, but recently one of the national tabloid papers ran a front page story claiming that Fortnite turned a teen into a suicidal drug addict.

Eurogamer (along with one of their former Video Producers Chris Bratt) have done some really good investigation into the story, the author and how this kind of stuff happens. Thought people might find it interesting/terrifying how this kind of stuff comes to be reported.

Also, the top comment on the story from a therapist is really interesting too, as it shows how even large & generally respected news organisations like the BBC can fall into these kind of generalisations.

I've experienced first hand how media treat this sort of thing. A few weeks ago, right when the World Health Organisation announced gaming disorder was going to be a thing, I was contacted by the local BBC radio and asked if I would go on their midday show to talk about it (I'm a therapist in the same area who covers, amongst other things, addiction). They had no knowledge of my life and passion as a gamer, it was purely a professional stand point they wanted.
When I spoke to them on the phone I told them that I was a gamer and explained that playing lots of games is different from addiction, and that it's important to recognise that for kids now going home and playing a few games online with their friends is this generations version of meeting down the park. I explained that in my 20s I'd played lots of video games, and sometimes played them for what was excessive amounts, but that it was what all my friends we're doing and it didn't impact on my job, relationship or social life. I never used the word addiction in this.
Skip to the next day and as I'm driving to the station the radio starts doing a build up and talks about having "a former gaming addict" who now "works as a therapist helping those with the same issue" coming on the show. Yup, me. They'd announced this twice by the time I'd got to the radio station. Despite me trying to talk to someone about this when I'd got there it the damage was done, and all I could do was try to clarify it on air.
Long story short, media will always try for the sensational angle as it sells better.

I think these are all fair, my intention was never to replace TANG in its original form, but to revisit the idea with Videogame movies being viewed by the crew, either in an edited format, or in a film & 40's style.

How,would people feel about revisiting This Ain’t No Game? I realise it’s a sensitive subject, given how closely it’s tied to Ryan (and rightly so), but I also feel there could be a lot of fun to be had by revisiting these movies with a new approach, while also mixing it up.

My 2 main ideas are either make it a two person thing, with the obvious pairing being Dan & Alex.

Alternately it would make a fun, if slightly painful at times, Film & 40s series for everyone to join in with.

What do you guys think, are video game movies worth a revisit on the site, or should TANG be preserved as is?

I’ve been having an issue over the last couple of weeks now, where when I try and watch streaming videos (but not live ones) on the iPad, at some point (but normally quite early on) the audio will rewind back 3-4 seconds but the video will play on as per normal, making everything out of sync.

Happened on 2 different devices, so fairly sure it’s not that.

When I use the download option and play it in the browser that way, everything is fine.

Also, super minor thing that I reported when Alexis was still here, but thumbnails still don’t display on a videopage, just a black box with the play image.
