@ozzie you nailed my sentiments exactly.

As a fellow long timer who has fallen increasingly out of step with the site (especially in the last year), I was ready to be done completely hearing the news yesterday - Jeff G _is_ Giantbomb...or was, until it became increasingly apparent how unsatisfied he had become with the site's evolution.

But the pickups they've made here, combined with what Jeff G already has cooking up on Patreon makes me think this may be best for everyone. Maybe it'll be more like the old days with Dan returning, maybe it'll continue to be the Jiantbomb of the last year where folks like Jan, Jess and Jeff B guide the content. But I think it will ultimately be for the best.

Second @noboners, thanks for the nice writeup trip down memory lane!

I played these at the same age and they've left the same, perhaps outsized impression in my head. Just phenomenal, formative RPGs with great characters, an engrossing story (the shift to playing the "villains" in Lost Age? Blew my 11-year-old mind) and a fantastic pairing of visuals and music .

I just felt my eyes well up seeing this news - so great to see these guys have a new place to make terrible internet together.

Guess I better figure out how to sign up for Patreon

Thank you all so, so much for your work these last 13 years. I would not be the person I am today without the presence of this incredible crew of people in my life,. Best wishes to all going forward. What a ride.

Simple game: the post above you states an over/under on how many episodes of the 5 GOTY podcasts next week contain a particular discussion or bit, person below bets on over or under that amount and makes their own over/under wager on another subject. For starters:

Over/Under: Jeff brings up the frequency of hearing the same anecdote about the "sucking out snake venom" sidequest in RDR2 as a knock against the game - [2 episodes]

Good luck on whatever it is comes next, Patrick! You did terrific work at Giantbomb, and your voice will be sorely missed here. Hope to see you 'round these parts in some capacity soon, can't imagine it'll be hard to come up with an excuse.

Comedy Bang! Bang! captures the convivial spirit of improvised chaos that the Bombcast has always distinguished itself with. Jeff's been hip to CBB since back when it was called Comedy Death Ray, so I wouldn't be surprised if it had an influence on the show's podcasting style. Many of the best "bits" in the show's history have been because the duders were willing to take the podcast on surreal detours when enacting characters or situations. They share a loose structuring of the show around segments, but the generally freeform conversational style of each means you can talk about anything, so long as it's entertaining. The Bombcast is a bit like theatrical improve, where news items and reviews act as prompts from an audience that spur conversation. CBB is entertainment without editorial, so it's less restricted and riskier at the same time. The content of GB's editorial work is the real backbone of why the show remains vital week-to-week, but the personalities on the Bombcast are what really set it apart.
