INSIDE Is More Intricate Than LIMBO but Falls Prey to Similar Shortcommings 0

INSIDE combines light platforming with simple but clever environmental puzzles in a similar fashion to LIMBO, Playdead's previous game. Unlike LIMBO, the comparatively detailed art style allows for more complex themes and ideas to be explored and lore to be interpreted. The puzzles are less abstract to fit with the more grounded world which constrains their complexity but they’re still satisfying and still manage to surprise you with novel mechanics later in the game. The story is told thro...

Maximum Payne, Minimum Fat 2

Remedy's first Woo/Matrix inspired, action packed, third-person shooter in the Payne franchise delivers on what you might expect yet is somewhat limited in scope compared to their future efforts. People might remember the Max Payne games as a moody homage to noire detective thrillers, interrupted by bouts of exaggerated slow motion action but the reality on both accounts is surprisingly different. The story (although creatively executed through comic book panels, expressive art, and some iconic m...

This is my first Deus Ex game but I’m intimately aware of the effect the original had on the gaming landscape over time. ...

Metro 2033 Redux Review 0

Metro 2033 Redux is a remake of the popular video game Metro 2033 and is sold standalone & boxed alongside Metro: Last Light Redux. As it is sold separately and is a game in its own right, this review will only cover Metro 2033 Redux.Metro is at its best when you're crawling around dark, dank tunnels in hope of scrounging ammo or gas mask filters whilst being kept on your toes by the human enemies patrolling the tunnels; when you have the freedom to explore in a semi-linear fashion and the l...

A Peaceful Platformer 0

Floating Point is a free game released by Tom Francis although it's less of a game and more of an interactive screensaver; which isn't an insult as it's mesmerizing colours and shapes combined with the simplistic but engaging gameplay make for an engrossing experience. The game succeeds in being engaging due to the simple but well tuned physics which involve you grappling to different shapes and swinging in circular motions, using gravity, building momentum and releasing to grapple and continue ...
