Dragon Age is a step in the right direction if you are looking to get into RPGs, but by no means is it a "hardcore" RPG. I also suggest looking into Black Isle/Bioware's back catalog if you want to see an example of some more RPGs. Oh, and maybe Mount and Blade-- that's pretty hardcore. "

Ah OK, at this rate It's only a matter of time before I finish ME2 - as soon as I as I do I'll pick it up, probably second hand. Are there any advantages to picking it up new, like the cerberus network?

@Einherjan: Thanks for the reply. I'm trying to go through the game being as thorough as possible simply because of the story. Like you said It's great, it seems so vast and with all the races and planets It's really intriguing. I have fully recruited a team and now I'm completing the side quests for the cerberus operatives. I think these missions are also really fun, they're a bit different as well because they seem more personal and there's more emotion - especially the one involving Miranda.

I think it's a good introduction to RPGs for me. It's like a easy first step.

Well, where do I start? Many of you may have read my previous blog post about a certain apathy for RPG games. For a game to change my mind after many games have failed must mean that it is pretty significant, either it contains a big shooter element which I'm particularly fond of or it has been able to do what no other RPG has done, kept my attention! Mass Effect 2 ticks all the boxes, so far that is. I can actually see myself finishing this game, not by forcing myself to grind through it but actually enjoying the game for what it is and taking an interest in the deep storyline.

There is a lot going on in ME2, sometimes I have had to pause the game for a moment and take in what has happened in order to keep up with the fast paced storyline. The fact that you have quite a few assignments open for you to undertake at any moment means that the story tree is ever expanding and there is a frequent flow of new information associated with the Mass Effect world. It is very uncommon for me to get into a storyline in such depth, to such an extent that I'm reading through the codex in order to understand each creature and planet.

I'm currently just over 10 hours into the game and on the second disc, there is so much to talk about! I'm excited to write down my thoughts on the game so far. I have recruited quite a few characters including Jack, Garrus Vakarian, Mordin Solus, Grunt, Samara, Zaeed and of course Miranda and Jacob. As you can tell I've progressed well and after defending a human from the collectors once on the planet Horizon, I now find myself recruiting even more members to bolster my squad. At a guess I would say that the game consists of fighting through levels to recruit members with significant powers for a final assault on the boss, or in this case, Omega 4 and the collectors.

I've now been given further dossiers, I have most recently recruited Samara after killing the Eclipse leader. Samara seems to be a significant figure and possesses substantial powers which will no doubt be key to defeating the collectors. Recently I've completed a few side missions as well as the main storyline. Like i mentioned above I'm currently luring new members in to my team but I am always aiming to do the side missions for the characters I have on my side. I completed the mission concerning Jacob Taylor and his father. Although this assignment is quite moving, in that you feel a hatred for his father one minute and sadness the next that he has lost his father in some ways, the mission is quite brief and it would be nice if it was possible to bring Jacob's father aboard the Normandy 2.

Like with all games, there are downsides - I think you know what's coming - scanning plants for materials. At first this task seems quite exciting discovering new planets and new solar systems, but after a while it becomes a tiresome chore. The solution to this i found was sitting down with supplies (food and drink) and relax with podcast to maximize your stock or resources.

I'm sure once I post this I'll realize I forgot to mention something, but I'll be sure to write it down and include it in the next and what will probably be the final post about Mass Effect 2. Maybe I'll write a review containing all my thoughts on the game in one post. We'll see.

Imagine a world, in that world is a gamer, a gamer that for the life of him can not finish and RPG. That gamer is me. Let me start at the beginning, everyday I keep an eye on the Frugal Gaming twitter feed waiting for a bargain that takes my fancy. They posted news that the fan favourite Mass Effect 2 was just £9.98 at Curry's while stocks last. Despite this being a absolute steel for most gamers, it was still quite a difficult decision whether to risk wasting 10 pounds on yet another role playing game I dislike and put down after 4 or 5 hours. I played numerous RPG games this generation alone ranging from the highly acclaimed Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, Mass Effect, Fable 2 and Fallout 3 to the not so highly acclaimed like Infinite Undiscovery (I still don't understand the title of that game). As of now I'm still yet to finish one.

It could just be the simple concept of RPG's that doesn't appeal to me, I'm quite partial to a more linear game, having the freedom to almost do what you like is slightly scary, I have know idea where to start or what to do next. Having such big worlds to explore, or even planets in terms of Mass Effect, gives me the 'what do I do now' feeling. I've sunk hours into some RPG's especially Oblivion and Fallout 3 but just when I think I'm getting somewhere I hit a stumbling block and don't know what to do next then consequently give up.

Well after the consideration I did pick it up, but only under the promise that no matter what, I will finally finish an RPG! Even if I have to sink to the lows of guides on the internet or YouTube videos, I will see them credits roll. So I bought it home today and started it perhaps 3 hours ago. I can't believe I'm writing this, but I'm enjoying it! The first game was really entertaining at the start and just like It's sequel, I enjoyed the start, but then I became stuck on a level that basically consisted of sand dunes and you scouring the surface in a buggy. Hopefully though, no such level will reappear. The main characteristics that really appeal to me in Mass Effect 2 are the storyline, which has started off just great, the witty one liners in the dialogue and the sexy females, Ashley in the first and now the lovely Miranda the second.

So there you have it, there's no hiding now, I have to finish it, and to be truthful I really want to, there's a satisfaction in finishing games, something you feel when you see the final cut-scene, or find out why that plot twist happened. Not finishing an RPG is a tick missing off the list, being in it for the long haul and feeling the satisfaction is lacking and hopefully it's only an amount of time before that happens. I'll keep you posted on how the adventure into the Lazarus project goes!

Well not much has changed from my last post really. I’ve had my eyes set on Battlefield: Bad Company 2 but due to a few people that I follow on Twitter recently buying some Turtle Beach headphones, I gave in and bought me some X1’s. I was debating on whether to get the X1’s or wait for the X11’s to come out. I’m a impatient lad so I popped to a new independant games store and bought them saturday.

The experience that I’m now having with games is vastly different, just playing FIFA with them the yesterday was great, I can now hear chants from the crown and it seems as thought I’m in the crowd. I reccomend you pick up a pair now, obviously if you can afford the wireless ones then go for them, otherwise the X1’s are great.

I’ve gone back to Forza Motorsport 3 over the last few days, I forgot how much I love that game. Buying cars that I’ve always wanted in real life and driving them and tuning them is lots of fun. I recently bought a Peugeot 206 which I have in real life and tuned it, spayed it the same colour as mine, bought new alloy wheels and other fun stuff. All of that entertainment without even racing!

Also, shamefully despite buying Uncharted 2: Among Thieves on release day I still haven’t played through it on single player. So I’ve finally got round to starting that, so far it’s fantastic, I’m only about 2 hours in so a long way to go. The graphics are fantastic it’s hard to tell what’s cut-scenes and what’s gameplay, also the sound brilliant.

Apart from that it’s pretty much been same old, a bit of FIFA, Modern Warfare 2 and the occasional game of UFC. My current gamerscore stands at 26,394.
