Games I've Beaten

People like to make fun of me for owning so many games that I've never played or only played for a few hours, but I've racked my brain and I'm able to come up with at least 100 games that I've actually beaten.

Just like books and movies, certain games can really have an impact on your life, and having that experience in common with someone can be really meaningful.

List items

  • Probably the most difficult Final Fantasy.

  • Best Final Fantasy ever! One of those games that really impacts your life.

  • Never got a hang of the card system.

  • 2nd favorite Final Fantasy. Best video game romance! The only thing I was missing was Wakka's legendary weapon. Yes I dodged 200 lightning bolts in a row, actually more like 400-something; went into one of those freaky video game trance modes and just dodged for as long as I could.

  • I like the fast-paced combat system.

  • Hours and hours of cutscenes.

  • Man there was one boss I really hated. The level has kind of an Aztec look to it. While fighting the boss the room keeps flooding and you have to constantly jump upwards. So hard.

Getting all the chaos emeralds is impossible.

  • First Sonic game I beat legitimately, start to finish.

Again, getting all the chaos emeralds is impossible.

  • Also beat this one legitimately. Being able to play as Knuckles in Sonic 2 was so awesome. Also, plug in any random game, press A B C at the same time, and prepare for hours of fun.

  • Is that a floating whale?

  • This game is so hard, but with a lot of patience and persistence, I managed to beat it legitimately.

  • Got stuck in the Dark World for about 3 months.

  • The most memorable video game experience ever. Absolutely epic final boss fight (actually got my adrenaline rushing). 100% completion without referencing a single guide, although there were one or two places I got stuck in a dungeon and had to ask a friend for help. It was me, M.M. and A.P. all racing to the finish!

  • Used a guide to help beat this one as fast as possible. Rolling around as a Gordon with infinite magic = good times. Final boss is pretty easy if you have Majora's Mask.

  • I beat this with Matt. Lots of cooperative fun, but it can be really competitive too.

  • Easily 70 hours of play time. Midna is way cooler than Navi. Pretty much a perfect followup to Ocarina of Time. My only complaint is that the final showdown isn't very epic; secret scroll moves are pretty much ineffective, whereas you can consistently land a hit with cheap normal attacks if you wait for the right timing.

  • Not easy by any means. And if you manage to beat it, you can play through again on a harder difficulty level. Anyone out there manage to beat the 2nd play-through?

  • Probably the weirdest Mario game (that's because it's actually Doki Doki Panic). Of course, I used Princess to beat most of the levels.

  • The game that defined my early childhood. This game never gets old. Who'd have known it's actually possible to kill Bowser with fire power?

  • The debut of Yoshi changed Mario games forever. And so did super duper secrets (not only Star world... but Special world?!).

  • One of my favorite RPGs (I'd expect nothing less from Square). This game is fun to play even if you're not an RPG fan. It's almost an action RPG: no random battles, and timed attacks allow for increased damage.

  • Still my favorite 3D platformer to this day. Absolutely amazing introduction to 3D technology; Nintendo truly set the bar with this one. Surfing on the turtle shell is still fun. Plus, all 120 stars, be-otch!

  • Great followup to Super Mario RPG. I forget what my record is for successive head jumps.

  • A very difficult and unusual 3D platformer, yet totally awesome nonetheless. Plus, all 120 stars, be-otch!

  • Yoshi! Plus, all 120 stars, be-otch!

  • Excellent throwback to classic Super Mario Bros. This game is so damn fun! There are a few critical design flaws though: 1) When a player dies, it pauses the game briefly, meaning your press of the jump button doesn't register, and then when the game unpauses, you go running off the edge. 2) The A-button is too close to the d-pad, meaning it's too easy to accidentally bubble yourself if you have big thumbs; I would have preferred bubbling to have been on the B-button. 3) If you shake the wiimote, your character does a twirl jump. This means players (like me) who move their controller around a lot while playing are constantly triggering the twirl jump unintentionally.

  • Again, excellent throwback, and the multiplayer is fun too.

  • Pretty close to the N64 version. Power sliding feels weird on a d-pad.

  • Still the best Mario Kart in my opinion. I was so awesome at this game. According to Nintendo Power, I had some of the best Time Trial times in the nation. That's what happens when you only own one N64 game for a whole year...

  • Still pretty damn fun but this iteration feels less skill based than the N64 incarnation; it's hard to stay in 1st place when the computer's constantly bombarding you with lightning and blue shells.

  • I used the cheats to get Mew and Mewtwo.

  • My friend Pikachu!

  • After this point I learned to stop playing these games.

  • This is my favorite Trading Card Game, so naturally I had several decks in the game that always seemed to win. The Wigglytuff deck is virtually unstoppable.

  • This game doesn't work well if you have a low voice, so I remember it being really frustrating.

  • I really need to play through the whole Metroid series. Thanks to Wei for convincing me to get started with this one.

  • Fun little tactics game.

  • Undeniably addicting, but my brain still feels slow.

  • Haha, does it still count if I used M. Bison's slide kick the whole time?

  • License to kill!

  • Never having played a Mega Man game before, I bought this game in Japan, and that very night, I stayed up the whole night and beat it in one sitting (I literally didn't get up the whole time). This game is so damn difficult, but my friends were sleeping right next to me, so I couldn't even swear or throw the controller. The final boss wasn't even the most difficult battle. There's a cyclops like monster that disintegrates and teleports across the screen piece by piece. Dodging each piece requires impeccable jumping and timing, and then, shooting his eye in the brief moment that it's open also requires impeccable jumping and timing. I think this is the most difficult boss battle of my entire video game history.

  • Not as hard as the original. I don't remember anything remarkable about this game.

  • Also not as hard as the original from what I remember. One of these games introduced the robo dog, which was pretty cool.

  • None of these games seemed as hard as the original overall, but I remember Dr. Wily being very difficult to beat in one of these games. He constantly shoots giant orbs at you, and they deflect your shots, so it seems impossible to even hit Dr. Wily, but I eventually figured out the trick.

  • Take Me Out!

  • Beat this on the SNES long after MKII, just for curiosity's sake. Shang Tsung is a cool boss; you never know who he'll transform into.

  • This is the most I ever got into a fighting game, and I was only in 2nd grade. I had every single special move and fatality memorized. I would usually resort to cheap tactics though: well timed uppercuts with Jax, or a perpetual sweep attack. Kintaro was much harder than Shao Kahn. I only managed to beat him about 2 or 3 times.

  • I was a pro at this game (I owned a very limited number of N64 games for quite a while). Unlocked all the planets and the special ending.

  • Endearing story and characters. The most addictive strategy RPG ever. Ashamed to say I put 200 hours into this all in 10 weeks time.

  • Story wasn't as good as the first one, but the strategy gameplay is still fun.

  • So far I only beat Growlanser II. Collecting various rings and trying to get all the character endings is extremely fun and addictive.

  • This game is all about simple carefree fun. I didn't beat all the levels myself, so I should really play through this game again.

  • My favorite RPG Maker! The included pre-made RPG is pretty good.

  • My introduction to Harmonix. I played this game non-stop for a whole summer. Some of my high scores were competitive on a national level.

  • The multiplayer is better than Frequency's, but I'm not a fan of the mainstream music that replaced the electronica of Frequency.

  • I could never beat this game as a kid. There's nothing I love more than coming back to a game as an adult and kicking its ass. I eventually got good enough to beat Blue Dragon mode without using a single continue. The arcade version is WAY harder; it still kicks my ass.

  • One of the funnest games I've ever played on the NES. Your pet blob transforms into different objects depending on what kind of jellybean you feed it.

  • Save all your nuclear missiles for the final boss!

  • Hmm isn't it possible to get like 110% secrets? I never could find them all.

  • One of those hidden gems. A great adventure/platformer. This game gets really tricky near the end, but I'm almost positive I finally beat it.

  • I found a hidden a section where you can stock up on extra lives; otherwise this would have been pretty difficult to beat. Blowing up the Death Star is very satisfying.

  • A very fun RPG-like fighter for the N64, by one of my favorite publishers of quirky Japanese games, Nastume. Matt and I played the heck out of this one.

  • Hack n slash.

  • Another hidden gem. This is one of my favorite games of all time. Beautiful Japanese environments, great action, fun platforming, awesome giant robot fights, and just the right amount of quirkiness.

  • Interesting sequel to Mystical Ninja. This one was a side-scrolling adventure and much more action and platforming based. Two-player co-op was an added bonus. The awesome giant robot fights return, but the super move combos are easier to pull off this time around.

  • Okay, the ending sucked, but the game itself was actually pretty good. I have a feeling a lot was lost in translation. The music is quite good too.

  • Point and click mystery adventure similar to Myst. Figuring out what to do next is extremely challenging at times.

  • I had to use cheats to beat the final boss; pretty sure it's impossible otherwise. Whenever the giant toy robot is severely injured, he just runs over to the charge station and recharges his batteries.

  • Some tracks were definitely too difficult for me; never quite mastered this game.

  • I remember spinning the Shy Guy propeller so much that I got a big blister on the palm of my hand, then wore right through it.

  • I like mini-games, I can't help it.

  • The boss battles were a nice surprise.

  • This was my sister's game, but I had to beat it anyway.

  • I got pretty far into the game, but of course I had to use cheat codes to skip to the final level. This game is extremely difficult.

  • Action/adventure similar to Zelda. Localized by none other than Working Designs.

  • This has got to be my favorite puzzle game of all time. Both the adventure mode and battle mode are awesome. You really should try it.

  • I could beat just about every song on heavy mode.

  • Definitely some harder songs in this one.

  • Extremely fun marble puzzle game.

  • Pretty fun co-op action/beat-em-up.

  • Probably my favorite Guncon game on PS2. Matt and I were really into these games.

  • Standard puzzle game with wacky players. Multiplayer is always fun.

  • First Square game on PS2. Only beat it with two of the characters.

  • Classic Guncon action on PS2.

  • Another good Guncon game on PS2. Matt and I beat this one together.

  • Another game I could never beat as a kid, but finally came back and kicked its ass as an adult. I doubt I could beat it on the hardest difficulty setting though.

  • Beat this without referencing a single guide. Took my own notes, and drew my own maps.

  • I beat the computer once! And I was only in 5th grade.

  • Wonderful adventure/platformer, on par with Super Mario 64. Managed to get every single puzzle piece, but I played it on emulator, so that made things easier.

  • One of the best movie-to-game releases. Excellent action and platforming. Pause the game and press ABBAABBA to skip the current level.

  • Beat this on the Sega Genesis. This was one of my favorite movies as a kid.

  • Jing and I played this on emulator. I'm pretty sure we beat it. Kirby is an awesome series.

  • Not nearly as fun as Mario Party.

  • Pretty standard adventure/platformer, but using your tongue to bypass obstacles provided for an interesting twist. The multiplayer battle mode was fun too.

  • Interesting game where you race up platforms vertically using your tongue.

  • I beat this with Kai.

  • I played this just because it's published by Natsume. It's actually a pretty fun adventure game. I'm not sure if it's meant to be a kids game; some of the challenges are pretty difficult.

  • This was a port of the awesome arcade beat-em-up to the Sega Genesis (of course the arcade version is harder). I think I was able to beat it once without using a continue. The hardest boss in my opinion is the guy who rolls around on the floor all over the screen.

  • I rented this game and I remember defeating the giant hand at the end, so I'm counting this game as beaten.
