There definitely seems to be some marketing stuff going on. As of this writing, Direct2Drive.co.uk still shows Brink, Hunted: The Demon's Forge and Alice: Madness Returns prominently as "not available on Steam". Never mind that all of those games are readily available on Steam. 
 
My advice to anyone trying to get some of the digital distribution pie that Steam currently owns: first deliver the goods, and then write your press releases. I still remember a Microsoft  press release that said that "Games for Windows Live is going to show our strong support for the PC platform".

I'm in exactly the same spot as you were. I've yet to finish the game, but never got around to it. The "friendship" mechanic is indeed a stupid thing. Any benefits from friends are immediately offset by the cr@p you have to endure as a "close friend". But I still want to see the story unfold. Since the last Steam sale I'm also the proud owner of both DLC packs. But I won't start 'em before finishing the Niko story. Don't know why, but it just doesn't feel right. One of these days ...

I'm using MediaMonkey. Has everything I need: it can reed music info from OGG files (handy since 95% of my library is OGG), easily rips CDs and has a nice, clean interface.
