Capt_Blakhelm's Favorite Developers/Publishers

Just a casual list of the names behind many of my favorite games. This was a list I started years ago and looking at it now, some of these developers/publishers don't deserve to be on a "good company" list due to their actions. So this list is simply a way for me to say "Hey, these companies were behind some of the games I loved".

List items

  • I've lost alot of respect for Nintendo recently due to their relationship with Youtube coverage, fan developed content, and outright lack of enough solid games on their own consoles. Still, they are behind numerous excellent games and at least 7 times out of 10, when they develop or publish a game, it will be great or even excellent (lets ignore Virtual Boy and Phllips-CDi - kthxbai)

  • This listing exists exclusively thanks to Mass Effect as I haven't played their other titles. Of course, these guys cut their teeth on 90's RPGs and classics such as Jade Empire, Neverwinter Nights series, and KOTOR.

  • I made this entry well before #FucKonami was a thing, so they don't truly deserve to be on this list in a modern sense. Consider much of this list (and the reason for this listing) based mostly on nostalgia, when Konami made excellent games and some of the best licensed games in the 90's. The Castlevania, Zone of the Enders, and Metal Gear series are among my top favorite games, and they're behind many other greats including Gradius, Pro Evolution Soccer, Silent Hill, interesting obscure games like Hybrid Heaven, Salamander/Lifeforce, and NanoBreaker, and plenty of licensed classics like The Simpsons, X-Men, and TMNT arcade games.

  • Batman Arkham games - that's all I need to say.

  • Developers of SimCity, SimTower, The Sims, Spore, DarkSpore and other great titles before EA buried them.

  • I feel it's a stretch to call Koei-Tecmo a favorite developer. The Ninja gaiden series is great, but I never got too far into them. I loved Tecmo Bowl. I've only played a demo of DOA on DC. I've played a ton of the Musou games, but even though I enjoy them, they are hard for me to call good games (like drugs).

  • The spiritual successor to Clover Studios are behind some excellent character action games. They have fallen short in the recent years thanks to Legend of Korra, TMNT: Mutant in Manhattan, Starfox Zero, and the cancelled Scalebound. Hopefully, Nier: Automata will bring them back to glory.

  • I have some qualms about the modern Sega brand especially the way they handled the Sonic franchise, how they treat fan inspired games, and how they treat Youtubers. However, their name is ingrained in many of my favorite titles and the Genesis was a big part of my gaming childhood.
